Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.
Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

Has anyone posted when high tide is?
I suggest you quit while you are still ahead.
Including self defense...
So many really bad/sick jokes come to mind just reading that sentence...
You heard 120º?
LOL.......maybe she could take them to The Peabody! They already have ducks in the lobby!
Lots of poverty in New Orleans, this is true.
Lots of drugs, substance abuse, violence, theft, prostitution, and general misery there.
But the people who are going to lose most might not be the poor left in New Orleans. It's going to be the people who evacuated and come home to find their homes ruined and their businesses destroyed. I have two nieces who may very well be in that boat, with their husbands and their livelihood about to be destroyed.
And for all who are going to be impacted, I pray.
Janice Dean was on while whatsizface was posting.
I heard him say the same thing -- it will strengthen it.
You made need to be patient, especially with a dial-up account. I'd imagine their server is getting crushed.
The Superdome is built to withstand catastrophes; the roof is built to stand up to 200 MPH wind andCrap info ...
uhhhh....
no comment.
Excellant response.
For those who seem to know How and Why and Who God decides to strike down, could you tell me what lottery number I should play tomorrow. I really don't want your "interpretations" on San Francisco, Las Vegas, etc.
I sure don't pretend to know how God decides or communicate to me, but it sure isn't through some guy on TV with Big Hair gyrating and screaming. ( yeah, ok, flame me for the truth)
Around 10 AM, I think.
Any town is a party town if you know the right people. I think that's built by definition into the phrase "right people." I mean, even Salt Lake can be a wild time if you have the inside skinny on where to score some illicit caffeine.
Are you the mayor of FR? :-)
Weather Dean said she couldnt come up with a description for this..and jerry said..It's hell AND high water.
What is really scary is how many cars are moving in both direction in the live shots. Goodness gracious I hope that the gridlock breaks enough. 10mph+ should be enough for them to stay ahead of the worst, but a few hours ago one of the emergency team members was on a phone interview from a car in the traffic and said that in 5 hours they had averaged about 5mph.
Red Beans And Rice
1 pack of red kidney beans
3 teaspoons bacon drippings
4 cloves of garlic (chopped)
2 large ham hocks (raw, not smoked)
1 onion (chopped)
1 bell pepper (chopped)
1 package of sausage (preferably spicy)
salt
pepper
cayenne or red pepper
Instructions:
Place beans in container with just enough water to cover.
Soak for 2 hours or until beans begin to plump and wrinkle.
In large pot, place the soaked beans, chopped garlic, bacon drippings, ham hocks and about 3 1/4 cups of water.
Bring to a boil.
Then, reduce heat and let simmer for one hour and thirty minutes or until the meat of the ham hocks begin to loosen from the bone.
At this point, add chopped onion, chopped bell pepper and sausage.
After, add salt and black and red peppers to your liking (because of the bacon drippings and ham hocks, only a moderate amount of salt is needed, the peppers depend on your tolerance of spicy food).
Turn up heat and bring to boil.
Then reduce heat and let simmer for another hour.
Let sit for about 15 to 20 minutes and then your ready for some "good ole red beans".
Comments: The secret to good, thick "bean gravy" is not to add any more water after the first three cups. Serve with rice and enjoy! And don't forget the cornbread.
God Bless the good people of New Orleans and everyone in the path of Hurricane Katrina.
Well-said Joe.
