A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Let's talk about FR screen names. How did you choose yours? Do you use your real name, a nickname, a silly name, a celebrity's name, your pet's name, or some other? Funny? Or serious?
With as many registered users as FR has, we are sure to see some highly unusual monikers. The first thing I thought of when I saw this name was:
Feiny (read more about her in our 09-18-02 Finest thread), as we like to call her, resides in California, and this is how she told us her screen name came about:
"I had a tough time coming up with a screen name. I tried several & they were not available. I remembered that my other half (do not call him Mr. Sukass) had called Diane Feinstein another name
..'Feinswine'. He said that is how he & his friends used to refer to her in San Francisco. For some strange reason, Feinswine was not available
so I added suksass..and PRESTO
I was a FReeper."
Let's talk about logos. If *you* had a logo, what would it be - your name? a favorite hobby? something you collect? Would we think of you each time we see a particular item? Those of us with regular, plain screen names sometimes get a nickname chosen *for* us, and it somehow sticks. With thanks to ST.LOUIE1 (who is much better known at the Finest as *Wolfie*), "Billie" soon became "BillieBlue", with a little bluebird as my sig.
I wanted to post a Few of Our Finest' logos here, and will post more later in the thread. Please feel free to show your own, and tell us why you chose your name. :)
Above is an early logo I made for Aqua based on her name, but after getting to know her better, as a sistah and hostess at the Finest, the following one - which she chose - fits her southern personality much better.
You've been seeing this guy at the Finest for a little over three years. He usually comes up for air once or twice a day to check in with us. :)
Our Fair Lady ... God bless her loving heart - she never runs out of kisses or interesting things to say.
Even before he grew into the suave, dashing and debonair wolfie he is now (in the photo below), he was still a bit of a rake and a rogue...but every bit as irresistible! (Plus he's helped me with some of the logos for today!) :*
Wolfie's partner in crime - that fox jwfiv....Yip AhRooooo!
Let us never have to wonder what the Finest would be like without Rev. Nan. :)
Or the honorable Mayor and his purple cup and daily devotional, not to mention his devotion to our Military and bringing us Military Monday week after week.
The distinguished and wise Mr.Owl, who diligently watches over us from his lofty perch.
MamaBear, aka Lori, always the fashion maven, shows off some of her jewels, furs and delightful chapeaus.
Yep! That's our Pipster! Any questions?! (((((((((Pip)))))))))
Amy has soooooo many logos (compliments of her 'bro') it's hard to choose which one to use, so I asked Louie to send me one of her favorites.
Hello, Dolly - it's so nice to see you here where you belong - on your bicycle, of course! :)
One of our most recent, and most patriotic! screen names - and even sweeter than this little angel. :)
As dutchess flies off into the wild blue yonder, I wish you all a beautiful good morning, and once again, my thanks to ST.LOUIE1, for some of these great logos you see above, and others that will be posted on the thread. Don't go way now! We've just begun to have fun!

Well as some know my scene name "Who's your mama" is also a tribute to my mother....Who life represented all that was good about our fair state....Mom was way before her time in many areas. She was educated, loved her basketball (all sports) was an ace shot on the Purdue rifle team....and almost got drafted because of the spelling of her name.....She never lost her femininity, raised we three girls and made sure dad was the head of our household. Like any neck she supported him in all his endeavors....I could go on for ever....But even after ten years I still miss her and tear up....Any idea for an icon would be apprecited.

Like any neck ROFL! I literally laughed out loud when I saw that! I'm assuming you got it from the same place I did...Greek Wedding??
I'm gonna play with your name a little myself. Here's something I made for another FReeper -- his name is cedarswingman, and someone calls him "Woody", which lead to these...

What a wonderful idea for a thread. My name is a nickname an dear friend has for me and make me feel warm and secure when I think of it/him in fact he is popping round to see me for a couple of hours this evening.
Any idea for a logo this has sort of become my logo but is more a signing off one - please note only posting as an example I am not signing off for the night LOL

Needless to say--I'm pumped! :o) I've had several e-mails from him and he is just gonna be lazy for a few days. Then do some flying--he is a helicopter pilot on the side. He's trying to get his instructor's certification so he can do this if and when he gets out of the Air Force.

Wonderful thread, Billie! Now I understand why wolfie wanted me to send him that little "mauvey" lori bear. :-)
I have some other logos that I want to post (all made by the amazing and talented wolfie), but I am really pressed for time today. I see that the thread is scheduled to run for two days, so I will have time to come back and post them later.
The "fashion maven" (LOL. That is too funny!) needs to grab her pearls and run, but will be back.
Happy Tuesday HUGS!

I Loved this Thread, sweet Billie! Every Graphic and Every Thread you Create is Wonderful!
I Made my My Screen Name out of Two Things; I Love Kitties, so I Decided to Combine "Kitty" with the Cutest Cat Name I Knew of: "Mittens", LOL. My Real Kitty's Name was "the Fang-Face," but "Kitty Fang-Face" Sounded to Ferocious to Seriously Consider!
I still Adore this Cute Graphic you Gave me Quite A While Ago; the Look on the Kitty's Face is so Sweet:

Billie, this thread is great! What a wonderful idea and I love the graphics! The logos for Auntie Bear, WVNan and St. Louie were adorable, as were the others. I thought I would be scubachick since I love scubadiving and it is a nickname that Mr. Scubachick gave me. Now the baby is babychick! Aunt Lori came up with that one-we like to keep it all in the family! lol

How delightful a topic, Billie!!
I must say, though, it appears to be one where 'Da Teach' -
is ending up doing more homework than the students, kindly making signature gifs for many..:))
Thank you so much for creating the special one for me, and your lovely words.
We've come a long way, Billie, since meeting over SocksC. and his harrowing escapades in 1998, volunteering to be his two safe havens, should one be needed!!
The Whitewater Years, though ever so frustrating, drew many of us together...I see Diver Dave registered not long after I did.
=========================================
Getting back to your topic, I'd been in Lurk Mode on FR since September 1997, getting the Nitty Gritty on what *really* was happening with whom and where - - cruised along, fuming and seething, until I reached Mt. Vesuvius Stage.
In April of 1998, Kenneth Starr was being hounded to death everywhere he went, reporters salivating over possibly getting an exclusive 'Something.'
One day they descended like vultures as he emerged from his house, carrying to the curb his garbage bag for pickup like a good husband would, before getting in his car to drive to work.
He was barely able to back out, the car totally surrounded by the press.
That sad scene finally tripped my trigger, and thoroughly outraged, I zipped off an email to JimRob with a "What If" counter thought - -
What if we supporters of Truth and Right were to balance that picture with tons of our support mail being carried in huge garbage bags by Postal Service carriers TO his house?!!
The hour was very late here on the Right Coast, and I headed for bed.
Okay - here's where I interject the fact I NEVER CHOSE A SCREEN NAME !!
Waking the next morning, my husband (a lurker longer than I had been) greeted me with "Look at this!" and led me to the computer screen.
It was an FR article posted by JimRob - - and for it, he had used the email I sent him!
Since it had my real name signed to it, he had used XXXXs over it to protect my privacy.
Then my husband gleefully said, "Knowing you would like to be able to make replies right away, I WENT AHEAD and REGISTERED YOU as - - LadyX!!"
Of course, when Billy Jeff used the disclaimer "I DENY DENY DENY I..." - I could very well vehemently say I DENY DENY DENY the "X" stands for X-rated ..:))
[Footnote: as a result, many of us DID send letters of support to Kenneth Starr's office, receiving thank you cards in the mail..:))]
================================
A year or two ago, I had lovingly tagged ST.LOUIE1 - our dear Wolfie - as my Woofie Toofums.... he retaliated with a logo playing on the "X" in my name - -
[I love it, Louie Louie..:))
There you have The Real Story......

Words are made up of a few or a whole bunch of letters; Word guys like yourself put a whole bunch of words together and make them look pretty. (You will probably make a poem to go with this! LOL)
I don't like the way the "Word Guy" looks - too big, ugly - need to redo that. You get the picture though?! LOL
