A few of FR's Finest....Every Day....08-23,24-05....What's in a Name?
Billie; ST.LOUIE1

A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

~ Billie, Mama_Bear, Dutchess, Aquamarine, DollyCali ~

Let's talk about FR screen names. How did you choose yours? Do you use your real name, a nickname, a silly name, a celebrity's name, your pet's name, or some other? Funny? Or serious?

With as many registered users as FR has, we are sure to see some highly unusual monikers. The first thing I thought of when I saw this name was:

Feiny (read more about her in our 09-18-02 Finest thread), as we like to call her, resides in California, and this is how she told us her screen name came about:

"I had a tough time coming up with a screen name. I tried several & they were not available. I remembered that my other half (do not call him Mr. Sukass) had called Diane Feinstein another name…..'Feinswine'. He said that is how he & his friends used to refer to her in San Francisco. For some strange reason, Feinswine was not available…so I added suksass..and PRESTO…I was a FReeper."

Let's talk about logos. If *you* had a logo, what would it be - your name? a favorite hobby? something you collect? Would we think of you each time we see a particular item? Those of us with regular, plain screen names sometimes get a nickname chosen *for* us, and it somehow sticks. With thanks to ST.LOUIE1 (who is much better known at the Finest as *Wolfie*), "Billie" soon became "BillieBlue", with a little bluebird as my sig.

I wanted to post a Few of Our Finest' logos here, and will post more later in the thread. Please feel free to show your own, and tell us why you chose your name. :)

Above is an early logo I made for Aqua based on her name, but after getting to know her better, as a sistah and hostess at the Finest, the following one - which she chose - fits her southern personality much better.

You've been seeing this guy at the Finest for a little over three years. He usually comes up for air once or twice a day to check in with us. :)

Our Fair Lady ... God bless her loving heart - she never runs out of kisses or interesting things to say.

Even before he grew into the suave, dashing and debonair wolfie he is now (in the photo below), he was still a bit of a rake and a rogue...but every bit as irresistible! (Plus he's helped me with some of the logos for today!) :*

Wolfie's partner in crime - that fox jwfiv....Yip AhRooooo!

Let us never have to wonder what the Finest would be like without Rev. Nan. :)

Or the honorable Mayor and his purple cup and daily devotional, not to mention his devotion to our Military and bringing us Military Monday week after week.

The distinguished and wise Mr.Owl, who diligently watches over us from his lofty perch.

MamaBear, aka Lori, always the fashion maven, shows off some of her jewels, furs and delightful chapeaus.

Yep! That's our Pipster! Any questions?! (((((((((Pip)))))))))

Amy has soooooo many logos (compliments of her 'bro') it's hard to choose which one to use, so I asked Louie to send me one of her favorites.

Hello, Dolly - it's so nice to see you here where you belong - on your bicycle, of course! :)

One of our most recent, and most patriotic! screen names - and even sweeter than this little angel. :)

As dutchess flies off into the wild blue yonder, I wish you all a beautiful good morning, and once again, my thanks to ST.LOUIE1, for some of these great logos you see above, and others that will be posted on the thread. Don't go way now! We've just begun to have fun!

LOL! I love your post! And, not to worry - I'm working on yours! Most of these posted are ones I've had for a long time, and Louie helped with some of the newer ones. You *will* be fitted with a sig before long, *one-of-many-FR-Bobs*!

Just a note to all, and an apology if necessary. When I was putting the opening together, I previewed it in IE6, and since the background is a rainbow gradient, the text colors had to be arranged on the background colors so that they would show up.

When I put it in the posting form this morning, the text colors didn't fit, so I adjusted them for FR.

Now, I am viewing the thread in Firefox, and once again, some of my text colors do not have enough contrast against the background so that *I* can read it. If any of you are having that problem, I am sorry! :( You can highlight it and read it, fortunately!

Good Morning Billie! :) Wow, what a surprise! The thought and work you do for your threads is brilliant. The logos are absolutely beautiful! HUGS!

Thank you, GBU. It's always fun when we get Freepers involved, and this was fun to do. I hope you *found* the four logos in the Welcome post! Thank you for the 'appreciation rose'! :)

This has to be one of your very best threads. You are so doggoned talented!

You sweetheart! Thank you for such high praise. I appreciate that so much. :)

You must have worked your little blue tail feathers off putting this one together. : )

I always think when I start one, this is a piece of cake, but WHEW! couldn't stop once I got started, and you were a lifesaver with all those cute ones you 'gave' me - some old, some new!

Don't let me forget to do something special for you! (and you won't, will you?!) LOL

What a gorgeous Post. It's fun to see all the old sig gifs from the past but I thought the mermaid had been banned (lol).
The explanation for me choosing a purple rhododendron for a sig gif is that I love rhodo's and have planted about 30 around our place plus had a stained glass window made for the bathroom with you guessed it a big purple rhododendron flower in the center. Even have a framed painting of one, (they grow in the mountains).

Spc. Jennifer Fitts explains why she is a soldier and remains in the army.

Over the years, I’ve tried putting it in plain words, with various degrees of success.

I’m a patriot, yes, but it’s more than a deep and abiding love of my country and a need to give back to her somehow that keeps me in the Army.

It’s not the pay; although for the first time in my adult life I am totally out of debt and living more than just barely above the poverty level.

It’s not the education benefits, since I earned them after my first enlistment. The GI Bill is a lovely thing, but it’s not why I stay.

It’s not the medical care necessarily, since as a National Guard member, I don’t get many medical bennies when I’m not activated.

It’s the people – the Soldiers. The good, the bad and the indifferent.

It’s that human factor that reaches out, across backgrounds and educations and lives, and binds us together.

No matter how fragile those bonds seem, they’re still there and they’re everlasting.

This is no real surprise. Historians like James McPherson studying the Civil War have found a similar motivation. McPherson titled his book looking at why men fought in the Civil War, For Cause and Comrades. Looking at what the men wrote at the time about why they fought, he found that they were just as likely to have wanted not to let their buddies down as for more grandiose ideas. Stephen Ambrose in books like Citizen Soldiers and Band of Brothers also found out that men's sense of camaraderie was one of the strongest motivations in soldiers' minds during World War Two.

(Thanks to John Byrnes for the tip)

Good morning, (((Billie))). What a lovely post. Are you gone to Crawford Saturday? I think I am.

Hi, Texagirl - you *will* have a logo before this day is over - promise!

It would be nice to go to Crawford - have never been there before - but we have plans for tomorrow night that have been made for a while. Hope there is a huge turnout and that the leftwing media will give it even 1/4th the publicity that the traitor mom has gotten/is getting still.

Mornin' BillieBlue.

Kewl Thread.

Popping to the surface to say Howdy!

Been spendin' a lot of time diving down to the depths of Able Danger. Reminds me of the old "Whitewater Files" when I first began lurking at FR and all the info available yet unreported by the MSM concerning all the scandals of X42 and his unlovely co-conspirator. Once again, the MSM is trying their darndest to ignore the elephant in the middle of the editorial boardrooms.

Well, got fresh tanks, more deep divin' - Have a great day!

Kewl new logos in the "Welcome."

Great thread as usual!

Just thought I'd pop in from the delightful coastal town of Penzance in England where I'm taking a break from it all and say HEY. (Can't find the quote marks on this Brit keyboard...)

Hi, Allegra - hope you're enjoying your R & R, but of course you are! Thank you for popping in and always with a nice compliment at that! :) We need to get a logo for Miss Allegra, too! (I'm making a list - checking it twice) :)
