I am ashamed of how Americans treat the homeless and the needy in their urban cities and how this website denigrates the poor and less fortunate. You people are the richest country on earth and you will not even give out a scrap to those who are on the streets begging for a living! They need jobs, they need to feed their families, and you won't even help out shame on you!
The Bible says that God will judge the nations that forget the poor! You wont be rich forever, these poor ones will go to heaven and you'll go straight to hell with nothing!
Is that tribe still in business?
You obviously haven't looked at my tax liability and the social programs which I am forced to support. We are the richest country on earth due to the freedom we (used) to offer, alas, socialism has now taken over and your complaints, as misguided as they are, will soon be answered, to everyones detriment.
Hm I got it now thanks Dark.
somehow I am not surprised :)
"orange_agent"? Is that a clever play on the "Agent Orange" that ran for President last year? You know, the billionaire that has several homes worth millions of dollars EACH and yet you want to take all of my money? Jen-jis, is that YOU??
No?
Gimme a minute -- you're still from Mass., but you live in a COMPOUND? You live in a compound yet you want to take all of my money? faTeddy, is that you?
No?
Last guess -- you live on the west coast, Malibu maybe (you know, one of those seaside mansions with all the fireplaces)? You've been living off of -- well, I don't know what, because you haven't had any kind of a hit in years, and rumor has it you barely graduated high school and now you expect to educate us on the finer points international politics -- you have plenty of guest rooms yet you want to take all of my money? Babs, is that you?
Go back to DiminutiveUnderparts, please.
Welcome.
Probably not.
I haven't heard them do anything in years.
In America the idea of a permanent poverty class is considered unAmerican. Or, a convenient political rant and campaign issue for Dems and other pseudo-liberals.
I think you were looking for the Democratic Underground. Your comments are misplaced.
Who do you think created the poor?
HOLY CRAP ON A CRACKER, Andy! ROTFLMAO!
That's awesome.
Also Beggars. And among the beggars New York's status competition is renewed, there in the much-despised subway...The Dixie cup is the conventional container.
There is one young Negro on the Seventh Avenue line who used to get on at 42nd Street and start singing "I Wish That I Were Married," at the top of his lungs and then pull a Dixie cup out from under the windbreaker he always wore and walk up and down the car waiting for contributions.
I never saw him get a cent. Lately, however, life has improved for him because he has begun to understand status competition. Now he gets on and sings "I Wish That I Were Married," only when he opens up his windbreaker, he not only takes out a Dixie cup but reveals a clipboard sign, on which is written: "MY MOTHER HAS MULTIPLE SCHLERROSSIS AND I AM BLIND IN ONE EYE."
His best touch is sclerosis, which he has added every conceivable consonant to, creating a good, intimidating German physiology-textbook solidity. So today he does much better. He seems to make a living. He is no idler, lollygagger or bum. He can look with condescension upon the states to which men fall.
That passage makes me want to pick up a copy and read it again. Many years ago, I was listening to some other design majors earnestly discussing how art students were superior to all other forms of life, when one particularly artsy-fartsy jerk went off on a tirade about how wrong this Tom Wolfe guy was; I started reading and began marveling about how RIGHT this Tom Wolfe guy was!
They might be the ones who got TV.
Now that he's become an acclaimed novelist people seem to have forgotten that he was the pioneer-and aside from Joan Didion, probably the only halfway readable practitioner of this craft-of New Journalism.
Some of his best work was done as a young tabloid journalist/essayist.
-good times, G.J.P. (Jr.)
I can just see it now...
[annoying commercial comes on]
"Graaaaagh! Commercial UNNNGH!"
*sound of club smashing TV*
LOL! Now THAT"S GOOD!
LOL!
Democratic Underground: "We strive for mediocrity and clamor for freedom from oppression of trolls, bugs, std's, and other touchy feely good subjects like the environment and stuff. Do we get, like, paid now man?"
