"The problem is never money. Vast, disasterous social problems are what creates poverty."

Nuh-uh. Lack of money is DEFINITELY the most important reason people are poor. Now, WHY they have a lack of money, that might be due the social problems, but if you give them a billion bucks they won't be poor any more. I'm willing to bet money on that. 8^)

"I would like to direct this to the distinguished members of the panel: You lousy corksuckers. You have violated my farging rights. Dis somanumbatching country was founded so that the liberties of common patriotic citizens like me could not be taken away by a bunch of fargin iceholes... like yourselves."

My taxes go toward welfare, food stamps, subsidized housing, Medicare, school lunches, people who can't pay their electric or phone bills, uninsured motorists, paying the salaries of cops whose primary work is in those poor areas, social workers, aid to Dependant children, plus I give weekly to my church.
Poor and homeless people don't wake up that way, it often begins as a result of a series of bad choices.
We are not allowed to interfere in their choices, yet we are expected to pay for the consequences of them.
If people are required to work for their daily bread (as the Bible suggests) it will help them to develop a work ethic and boost them out of their situation.
It is a sin for able bodied people to expect society to pay their way, and equally as sinful to allow these people to continue living that way.
