tough love, although, it being a tough thing to do I think it was the correct thing to do. His daughter coming out like that at a rally was a spit in his face. She knew it and so did he.
I wouldn't foot her bill at university either. But I wouldn't disown my own flesh and blood unless they posed a danger to me or my family.
Just goes to show that Newt and Dick has a lot more class than Mr. Keyes.
Homosexuality is a mental disease. This woman desires to insult, weaken, and embarass her father in public. She is not well.
Pathetic bid for publicity.
If this is Keyes brand of Christianity, I don't want any part of it. What a disgraceful parent and role model.
If this was a drug adiction or alcholism with an adict who refused treatment, there would be zero debate on what Keys did.
You have to wonder how much recruiting goes on with stuff like this. Was Keys really that significant? Ever?
Anyway, if the topic is off limits in the case of Mary Cheney then it should be off limits in this case too.
Lezzie pingers!
She did choose to be a Lesbian. Now she'll have to live with her decision. I think her future would be easier if she had a man.
This is another travesty that being gay causes, it leaves parents wondering where they went wrong and puts family members against one another.
I have read nothing from Maya or her father claiming anyone was DISOWNED. The media is creating a caricature right-wing bogyman to gain sympathy for their agenda.
MW: Did you at any point think that your being gay could change their minds about homosexuality?MAYA MARCEL-KEYES: No. My parents believe what they believe because of their religion. My mom, if possible, is even more conservative than my dad. I didn't think it would change anything. If you think that something is morally wrong, just because somebody you know is doing it doesn't mean that you start accepting it. So if people like my parents really believe it is a sin, then because I'm sinning isn't suddenly going to make them stop and think, "Oh, well, it's okay now."
MW: You admire their dedication to their principles?
MARCEL-KEYES: Yes. They have a lot of integrity. I think they're wrong on this issue and I wish they would change, but I don't think they're going to.
MW: What are your feelings towards them?
MARCEL-KEYES: I love them. They're my parents.
MW: And what do you think their feelings are towards you?
MARCEL-KEYES: I think they love me. They're probably very upset at the moment, but they love me.
....
MW: The story we're hearing is that he disowned you, kicked you out.
MAYA MARCEL-KEYES: He cut off all financial support, but that's something that I can totally understand. I am working for things that he's directly opposed to. It doesn't make much sense for him to be [financially] supporting someone who is working against what he believes in.
....
MW: Are you upset with how the media have handled your story?
MAYA MARCEL-KEYES: There have been a lot of rabid media who don't care about anything I have to say. It's weird because all they want to know is do I hate my father, trying to get me to say bad things about him, trying to get me to say that I'm angry [at him], and none of that is true. He's my father and I respect his decisions.
MW: Do you think your father would be good in government?
MARCEL-KEYES: He has a lot of integrity. He's a very honest person and I think he would be better than a lot of politicians. He actually stands for what he believes in. I don't agree with what he believes in, but a lot of people in this country do. He would make a good representative for those people.
Her parents ... broke off all communication ...
Contradicted by this:
Maya Keyes interview on CNN with Wolf Blitzer Monday, February 14, 2005The media want a falling out. They want Maya to be disowned. They want Maya to say nasty things about her father."WOLF BLITZER: Has there been a complete falling-out now between you and your father?
"MAYA KEYES: No. I love my parents very much. And they love me. And they disagree with what I'm doing at the moment. And, as such, they can't support me in this activity, but they are still always going to love me. I know that."
"TODD: A source close to the Keyes family says this whole situation has been devastating for everyone concerned, but the source says, through it all, Maya and her parents are still speaking . . . ."
"TODD: An aide to Alan Keyes tells CNN Maya worked for an Illinois political group run by Keyes and lived in a Chicago apartment paid for by that group. The aide says Maya and her father mutually agreed she should leave that group and therefore she's no longer eligible to live in the apartment. That was after Maya went to an anti-Bush protest during last month's inauguration."
They will ignore anything to the contrary.

I'm sure that was a tough call.
Hopefully with age, wisdom will come and his daughter will reconsider her behavior.
FYI
First of all, she is not entitled to anything.
Secondly, she burned that bridge and is old enough to deal
with the consequences whether or not she is a spoiled little brat bull.
Certainly there are a few uppity Lesbians out there that will take her in
and hold her up as a trophy. /laugh
/Salute to Alan Keyes
So colleges are now giving scholarships base on sexual preference? Will it ever end for the lefties...
Guys like Keyes are their own worst enemy. He's like a black Pat Buchanan-intelligent and articulate, maybe, but his train keeps going off the rails.
