Why is it classy to approve of your own child's immorality? What's sad is that this behavior is so coddled these days. What if she were participating in any other immoral or otherwise negative behavior? Would you expect everyone to embrace her then? A certain amount of rejection can have a positive influence for change. There is a whole lot of middle ground here. We don't know the whole story, but my guess is that Keyes loves his daughter very much and is dealing with it in whatever way he thinks is best for her.

What has total acceptance of Mary's behavior done for Mary? What has it done to everyone else? Mary is further than ever from deciding to leave her immoral lifestyle, and through her everyone else is feeling the pressure to ignore the truth about this harmful and immoral behavior. Personally I think it sounds like Keyes has a truer LOVE for his daughter than the Cheney's do. Love doesn't overlook harm, not to the person you love nor to the society you both influences. Love is helping your child do the right thing.
