If I ever found myself in this situation, I hope I have someone like the Eastwood character who respects me and loves me enough to do what I ask.

LOLOLOL...

Spoken like the overly-simplistic, naive and healthy human being you probably are.

Try talking to some paraplegics WHO ARE ALIVE and see if they think they'd be better off DEAD.

The arrogant, sophomoric assumptions of fortunate men and women who can walk and chew gum are both hilarious and depressing.

Hollywood loves you.

Unlike you I don't lump all human people into one mindset. This has nothing to do with those who have the will to live. I'm talking about the people who don't. All I'm saying is that I am in favor of respecting the wishes of all human beings. The character in this movie wants to die. Who are we to say "YOU MUST TRIUMPH OVER YOUR DISABLITY?" I respect people too much. I don't think I know better than the next guy.

And how many people believe in actually watching the damn movie before they make snap judgements about it? Obviously not Michael Medved.
?

Are you saying Medved doesn't first view the movies he reviews?

"Try talking to some paraplegics WHO ARE ALIVE and see if they think they'd be better off DEAD."

You made a very good point. FYI - There was a woman who used to attend my place of worship. I loved her. She had the greatest sense of humor (not at all a dark humor, either), had a beautiful smile, always acted like she was delighted to be there, and talked up a storm. Suffice it to say, she really loved the Lord. She was wheelchair bound. No legs at all. No arms at all. But a heart like a champ. True story.

Who are we to say "YOU MUST TRIUMPH OVER YOUR DISABLITY?"

Well, it sure beats saying: "YOUR LIFE IS WORTHLESS. STOP USING UP RESOURCES AND DIE!"

If societal pressure is not in favor of life, it is defacto in favor of the opposite. Do you really want to live in a society that would just as soon see you dead?

Who are we to say "YOU MUST TRIUMPH OVER YOUR DISABLITY?"...I don't think I know better than the next guy.

I think we'd agree on that.

And you obviously do not know better than doctors and nurses and therapists and clergy who work with the disabled ever day of their lives.

It is human nature to be overwhelmed by such terrible injuries. Most anyone who's lost the use of their arms and/or legs is suicidal AT FIRST.

But with help and guidance (which the female boxer HAD in MDB) these people get past their depression and find meaning in their lives again.

I respect people too much.

No, you don't. If you did, you would spend some time helping people get through whatever pain life has brought to them, instead of imagining that killing them is laudable.

You need to get some real-life experience here. Talk to a disabled person and see if their views have changed from the time of the accident to now.

Look them in the face and tell them just what you've said here.

Why are you lumping everyone together? I'm just saying that if somebody wants to die ... not live in the situation they are in, they should have the ability to make that decision for themselves. You obviously don't understand the meaning of respect, so we're through.

RE: "To folks immersed in the pablum that Hollywood spoonfeeds them, I suppose not"

"No. Is it something all the right-thinking, happy-shiny Hollywood people should see?"

These quotes of yours are proof positive that you have a hostile, ugly tone towards everything Hollywood that betrays a complete and willful ignorance of the subject, and a vast under-appreciation for the cinema as the touching, ever-lasting art form that it can be (and is sometimes). Since you don't seem to care about movies in the first place unless one of them should happen to offend your political beliefs (and since you are unable to talk about MDB in a context other than through your BS agenda), that makes it a little difficult to discuss (or argue, or fight about) MDB or any other movies with you.

Where I can cite examples to back up my claims, you have nothing but empty, pre-packaged rhetoric against Hollywood for what you perceive to be it's moral failings, as if you were some kind of an El Rushbo clone or something.

Bah. I think I'm through talking with you. I'm moving on to FReepers who can actually HEAR what I'm saying.

RE: "You're my first groupie."

It's not a compliment. I tend not to forget about people who drag the devil into every single damn cultural argument they make, including the kind of looney-tunes who warn people off of Harry Potter because "Magic is satanic, etc.".

See you at the Goblet of Fire opening (he, he).

RE: "1) I don't boycott movies because an actor is a left wing jerk, a nazi, a communist, etc. However, if a movie has Alec Baldwin rather than Clint Eastwood as the lead, it has to be that much better."

I disagree. If the quality of the writing, direction, acting and craft are up to snuff, and if a movie's storyline is suitably original or interesting, then it won't matter at all who the lead actors voted for in the last election or what they think about Pres. Bush and the UN, etc.

RE: "2) If an actor is well known Gay - no one is going to believe them as the romantic lead."

Depends on the actor. I think I'd believe Ian McKellan as a "straight" man in a movie, wouldn't you?

RE: "3) How actors behave in real life effects how the audience sees them. People don't live in a vacuum."

It's called the "willful suspension of disbelief", and it's not the actor's problem. It's the individual moviegoers' responsibility to make that choice or not. I do, and I have little respect for those who can't also make the seperation (it's so damn EASY to do, after all).

You seem unclear on the concept of manners, and distinctly lacking in sense. Take three days off.

True, but I'd add another few days in the cooler for the "panties" crack. It reeks too much of Abu Ghraib.

As I explained, ALL people who've suffered a devastating and crippling accident have thoughts of suicide when contemplating the dark and frightening life they now envision as their future.

And if we accepted these people's initial reactions as their only reactions, you'd have more of a point than you do.

But very nearly ALL these people change their minds and realize life is preferable to death. Period.

Thus, responsible people (you and me) should not take these early reactions as fact, but as a part of the process of healing. Our job as human beings, as followers of the Judeo-Christian ethos, as Christians, should be to help these people get past their depression so they can live again in peace and prosperity.

Whether you realize it or not, you're saying their first reaction is their only reaction; their depression is unending; and their lives worthless.

Again, I encourage you to talk to some paraplegics. They'll open your eyes.

Thanks for the offer to visit your website, but I'll have to pass. I've already read my fill of BS for today.

Do just not like me, or life in general?

Studies???

Is it possible you've never had a conversation with someone who was in a wheelchair?
