I just read the CBS reaction document.
Dan Rather was supposedly overworked and trusted Mapes.
What a bunch of crap! Dan had an axe to grind. At the very least, he should be removed from the news desk and 60 Minutes right now. If he wants to stay on and cover "cat stuck in a tree" stories, no problem.

Asked whether Democrats had been involved in handing over the documents, Mapes said "Texas Republicans of a different chromosome" were her source. The "extra-chromosone" insult is an old cruel Liberal taunt, meant to imply Conservative suffer from Down Syndrome as you alluded to.
It backfired on Al Gore when he was once on "This Week with David Brinkley." George Will interviewed Gore, and Mr. Will has a son that he loves very, very much who has Down Syndrome.

Yes. That should be President Bush. Just goes to show you where their biases are.

I'm surprised it took this long.

"Some even think Bush/Rove orchestrated the whole thing and manipulated Rather. What a joke over there. They (like CBS) loose more credibility every day."
I read the one about Rove/Bush playing Rather. In a way I believe that. The Libtards played into Roves hands the entire election cycle. Why would this be any different?

32. Rather set up
Rather and Mapes were after Bush for five years. Bush knew this, Rove knew this and they played Rather like a fool.
Whether the story was planted by Rove or not, Mapes should have taken the time to decipher the story before presenting it to Rather for broadcast.
The story they should have run should not have been about Bush's TANG service. It should have been about passing off documents to CBS.

I doubt they did, and probably never will, but it hardly matters now. The exit poll shenanigans were nothing compared to the Kerry campaigns complicity in the SeeBS memo fracas. The exit polling may have been dishonest, but hardly illegal. The faked memos were designed from whole cloth to sway a national election. I don't think the poll spoofing quite rises to the level of criminality, but the faked memo's do. Burkett needs to be arrested, and forced to give up where the documents came from. I don't think he faked them himself, and he proabbly believed them too. I think they originated inside the Kerry campaign, and a calculated attempt was made to get them out into the public arena using Burkett as the patsy. This effectivley clears SeeBS of anything except bad judgement. Mapes, Rather, and representatives of the Kerry campaign cooked this little scheme up from the start.

Finally. Took them long enough. Guess Blather working behind the scenes didn't want to have to face the instrument of his downfall from the general public's viewing. Too bad CBS still has Blather working. His malice for all pubbies will still be at work.

Helps to further diminish MSM credibility though. Something we've been working on for years. Almost makes me want to giggle...{{snort}}...

...some observers described as a journalistic Perfect StormOh I see, this was like an act of God. Rather and Mapes had no control over the outcome, but were just swept along by bad weather.

Four scapegoats. How about his majesty King Dan?
On Mary Mapes, couldn't have happened to a nicer person.

Dan Rather was not in charge of 60 Minutes. He only has authority over the CBS Evening News.
They should have required him to give an actual apology, but oh well.
Mapes was the producer who ran down the story for years. Ultimately, she is responsible for what she produces. She was not a scapegoat. She was very much in charge.
The producer for 60 Minutes Wednesday that she reported to also was fired.

The report said at least four factors that some observers described as a journalistic Perfect Storm The Perfect Storm: (1) An incredibly Biased Network, joined by (2) a politically biased producer/anchor team motivated by hatred of George Bush, joined by (3) a failing French-looking Democratic Presidential candidate (4) combined with time running out before November 2, 2004.
Yep, a storm of huge proportions. Good thing there was FreeRepublic for the Good Ship CBS to smash into.
Rather should have been fired as well, but he is disgraced so that is almost as good.
