That is just cruel, you should be ashamed of yourself. Apologize to that poor monkey for that insult.:)

Hackworth's role in this is thoroughly disgusting.
He declared the documents "genuine."

I didn't know the Kerry camp HAD run the ad--I thought it wasn't run.
THAT corruption should be the subject of an inquiry. Instead, the left is pillorying Armstrong Williams for what was imho a simple mistake.
The left probably calls it moral equivalence.

Thanks for the link . . . I guess ;-)
They really are delusional -- one claims as self-evidence that cable news is hard right, most of the MSM is right, and CBS is the middle. Oy vey!

To: logic
@ important conclusions:
1) They can't admit the documents are forged
2) They can't admit this the motive of the report was to influence an election.
WHY? Because many, many people would go to jail AND it would literally be the END of CBS NEWS.
To: chiller
So they faked it. Wrong call.
I think it's worse than that:Mapes stridently believed in both the authenticity of the documents and their content, and, indeed, told the Panel that she still does.
This kind of delusion is pretty instructive. It sounds a lot like VoteFraudInOhioButNotPennsylvania. I wonder if Mapes posts over at DUpeville.

Neither CBS nor presumably its Panel have been able to conclude with absolute certainty whether George W. Bush won Ohio.

It may just be the end of CBS News anyway.
To: Lancey Howard
The report is a whitewash.Still the reality is CBS has been and will continue to fail. It's in their genetic code and their passing is already written in stone.....

WHAT WE NEED TO DO....
We need a slush fund here at Free Republic. We could hire a news crew to follow Mapes around like Michael Moore and document her wallowing misery. Just like 60 mins has done for decades. You dont think Foxnews or ABC would play it in a heart beat?
To: onyx
Thanks for that information.

It may just be the end of CBS News anyway. I agree, but if they admitted to the truth, the criminality of all of this, CBS news would be so discredited they would have to cancel/eliminate the news division.

why am I so giggly about this statment? Maybe 'cause mapes had it coming? lol.
To: 1Old Pro
You're right. But this is better anyway. If CBS had apologized and/or retracted, they might just have had a snowball's chance in Heck of making it through this.
Not anymore....

The panel said a myopic zeal to be the first news organization to broadcast a groundbreaking story about Mr. Bushs National Guard service........a zealous belief in the truth of the segment seem to have led many to disregard some fundamental journalistic principles, the report said.
The piece was aired during a tight and hotly contested presidential race between Mr. Bush and Democratic challenger Sen. John Kerry. The timing of the story prompted charges of political bias against CBS News.
"....the Panel cannot conclude that a political agenda at 60 Minutes Wednesday drove either the timing of the airing of the segment or its content.
TRANSLATION: "The panel cannot conclude anything based on what is right before its own stinking eyeballs."

I didn't know the Kerry camp HAD run the ad--I thought it wasn't run. You know what ... the more I am thinking of it ... it might have been the DNC
I'm still trying to get the brain cells to work
But One thing I am sure of ... there was a commerical that had reference to the 60 Minutes show that aired like 2 days after

One of the many reasons I love Free Republic:
"The attacks on the September 8 Segment began virtually immediately.
One of the first came on freerepublic.com, a website"
