Report just issues, mapes finally fired
Didn't Rather's daughter have a hand in this one? Why is her name not mentioned?
Second, Colonel Hackworth concluded that, by not taking his physical, then-Lieutenant Bush was insubordinate and would have been treated more harshly had he been an unconnected Lieutenant.
Third, Colonel Hackworth stated repeatedly throughout his interview that then-Lieutenant Bush was AWOL and that a person would have to reach that conclusion when reviewing the documents unless youre the village idiot. Colonel Hackworth appeared to be referring to the fact that he had seen no evidence that President Bush was present for duty once he left for Alabama in 1972, although he did not articulate clearly how he reached his conclusion. Finally, Colonel Hackworth concluded that the bottom line here is is the abuse of power. He said that [I]ts how people up at the top can . . . lean on the little people.
Rather thought Colonel Hackworth was a strong and valuable expert witness. Mapes also believed that Colonel Hackworth was important for the Segment and included excerpts of his interview in early drafts of the September 8 Segment script. These excerpts were ultimately cut from the final script by Heyward and West.
Where did the fake memos come from?
Yes, there is no doubt whatsoever that there was collusion between SeeBS and the Kerry campaign. This was a political hit piece, designed to undermine support for Bush, and allow Kerry to pounce on Bush's military record because he was getting killed by the Swift Vets on his own. I am sure, that at some point, this 60 Minutes II team and reps from the Kerry campaign discussed how to disseminate it. We'll probably never know the truth, but the documents were probably supplied to Burke (the crazy national gaurd guy--whatever his name is) by the Kerry campaign, who then called SeeBS (who was expecting the call) and the rest is history. The timing was such that they thought they could let it out there and let it do it's damage before it was ever discovered that it was fake. It ended up blowing up in their faces, and the fact that See BS faked it became a much bigger story than the original topic of Bush's guard duty. I still maintain that this story, and the using of Burke (?) was cooked up all at the same time. Burke was a convenient middle man because he isn't very stable, and hates Bush, and his mysterious acquisition of the documents 'cleaned' the Kerry campaign and SeeBS of criminal wrong-doing. SeeBS could easily just say that Burke called them and they reported what was given to them, but their zeal to get it on the air gives the lie away that this was always an inside deal. The Kerry campaign and SeeBS were well coordinated on this story, and if it hadn't been laid bare as quickly as it was, I think the two would have been caught red-handed in bed together.
I am FURIOUS.
I think I've read that portion 12 times now and
I cannot seem to stop rereading it!
There is no doubt in my mind that Robin Rather was part of this as well.
From the TOC, all you need to know about the thickness of the whitewash:
B. Factors that Support a Conclusion that a Political Agenda Did Not Motivate the September 8 Segment...........................................................................................214
1. The Previous Work of Rather and Mapes............................................................214
2. The Editing Process Added Balance....................................................................215
3. Assuming the Killian Documents Were Authentic, They Added New Data to the Bush TexANG Record...............................................................................216
I especially enjoy #3. "Well, if the Moon really was made of green cheese, it would add new data..."
I wonder if Art Bell has contacted BSNews about the Rather job. Seems like he'd fit right in.
Germany.
"Wonder what the DUmmies are saying....anyone willing to venture over?"
DUmies are saying it is a message to journalists everywhere. Other than that, not much.
You speak the truth.
The part that I put in red discredits everything else, including the bit about him authenticating the memos. Did Hackworth SEE the memos he was authenticating, for example, or were they read to him?
OMG!
Tell me that pic has been photo shopped.
She cant' possibly be THAT hideous, can she?
No doubt about who's her daddy...lol.

By the way, they locked the topic. Probably in mourning for poor Mary. The Republican hit squad at work.
It looks like Col Hackworth fried his own reputation as well for defending CBS.
The "Fortunate Son" ad. They ran it anyway, even though the story had totally blown up in all (CBS, DNC, NYT, etc.) their faces. They were still convinced that they could ride it out, paint us and everyone else exposing the forgeries as a bunch of right-wing fanatics, and therefore make us go away.
Thing is, just like the democrats, CBS was still stuck in the 60's and 70's, when we all believed everything Uncle Walter said as the truth, because that's all we got. That miscalculation was probably the biggest mistake in the history of CBS News. Their TANG story was in shreds practically before it aired, and they didn't see it. Their decision to go ahead and run the "Fortunate Son" ad despite this did nothing but expose the coordination between CBS and the DNC to the entire world.
:^)
She is heavily involved in Democrat party fundraisers and activities (but her "professionalism as a journalist") does not allow her objectivity to be clouded....don't cha know.
IBM Selectrics did not have proportional spacing, they had a choice of 10 or 12 pitch spacing but it was uniform. The only typewriter I have ever heard of that could do proportional spacing (and it was a very crude form, not perfect like computers now do) was the IBM Executive. I do not know the cost of each back then, or when the Executive came out (it used traditional mechanical technology so it could have been made as early as the 1920's if it had been thought of, but I think it came out in the late 60's where as the Selectric was a complete revolution to the typewriter and did not come out until the 70's I believe)but it was very unlikely that a national guard unit would have an Executive (Executives are rare! Selectrics, while expensive until computers became common, were and are very common...)
haha! :^D
This feminist partisan RAT spent five years trying to damage George Bush with this story. She had a good job but became obsessed. Adios, Mary.
