Either the report's findings were leaked to Rather a long time ago, or he really can read the handwriting on the wall.

Foster an atmosphere in which competitive pressure is not allowed to prompt airing of reports before all investigation and vetting is done. It wasn't competitive pressure that led to this fiasco. It was political bias.

Even the casual observer knows the "story" was a political hit piece designed to cause the maximum amount of damage to the Bush re-election campaign. But that's now swept under the rug. This committee did the public half-service. They did the public a half service but gave a full service Lewinsky to the executives at CBS. If they admitted the TRUTH, that this was to effect an election, they'd all be in JAIL, just like their buddies at ENRON that they constantly attack.

Why didn't they shove Dan Rather out of the door in his underwear? Not enough snow this early in the season...

"The Panel has found that his unwillingness to consider that CBS News and his colleague were in the wrong was a mistake, and that the broadcast would have benefited from a more direct involvement on Rathers part."Translation:
"Dan should have acted more like a newsman and less like a partisan political hack."

Love to hear some comments from Bernie Goldberg..hehehe...
However, this morning as the story was being reported by on Fox, Bridgett had Bill Kristol on to comment.. While she would not say the word *fraudulent* documents, eventually Bill CUT RIGHT TO THE HEART OF IT!! YES!! I'm glad, but would like Fox to call it what it is. Fraudulent documents used by a biased news organization to attempt to smear Bush for a political win. Then juxtapose the LACK of scrutiny on Kerry's records and those he refused to release.. Bring the Swiftees back to discuss his real actions, lies about Cambodia, and hmmmmm just why is Kerry over there meeting with the Syrians, and dissing the President in Baghdad. Communing with the enemies again??

The panel called Mapes action a clear conflict of interest that created the appearance of political bias.Memo from Andrew Hayward to all CBS staff:

I am saying these documents are forgeries, run through a copier for 15 generations to make them look old.
Looks like you're up again, Buckhead.
Thanks for all you've gone thru, four pretty good trophies for your mantle hopefully helps.

The panel called Mapes action a clear conflict of interest that created the appearance of political bias. The appearance of.....????!
CBS tried to throw the Presidential election to John Kerry.

Remember Rather's hasty follow-up program with Bush's CO's poor elderly secretary, in which he credited her gossipy remembrances and claimed insider status at the time as further "proof" that the CO was unhappy with Bush, and that Bush had not acted properly as a Guard pilot? This, while the woman also clearly stated that the documents were not hers, and were not done on a typewriter she used and were not in proper form. I think she hinted that in her opinion someone probably had reconstructed them from another source that she knew nothing about. That omission of fixing any responsibility for the Rather interview of this Democrat Dame is very glaring, in my view. Are we supposed to forget that little episode ever aired? Not a chance.

Documents Suggest Special Treatment for Bush in Guard [post 47]
To: Howlin
Howlin, every single one of these memos to file is in a proportionally spaced font, probably Palatino or Times New Roman.
In 1972 people used typewriters for this sort of thing, and typewriters used monospaced fonts.
The use of proportionally spaced fonts did not come into common use for office memos until the introduction of laser printers, word processing software, and personal computers. They were not widespread until the mid to late 90's. Before then, you needed typesetting equipment, and that wasn't used for personal memos to file. Even the Wang systems that were dominant in the mid 80's used monospaced fonts.
I am saying these documents are forgeries, run through a copier for 15 generations to make them look old.
This should be pursued aggressively.

The report doesn't even admit that the documents are forgeries. If they can't get that factoid correct, then the rest of it is worthless as well..

If CBS was willing to release this much, behind the scenes it has to be a lot worse Agreed, such as a direct 2-way link to the DNC.

Won't Rahter have to report this news...lol? Rather: The Cheney administration, for which Bush is the figurehead, forced big greedy Enron/Halliburton-type corporate executives, concerned only about their stock options, to terminate four impartial journalists for alleged bias. Courage!
Yep. Rather will undoubtedly "report" this story the way it should be. /sarcasm.

Your quote wasn't even my most favorite! I thought the best was their conclusion:
"While the panel found that some actions taken by CBS News encouraged such suspicions, the Panel cannot conclude that a political agenda at 60 Minutes Wednesday drove either the timing of the airing of the segment or its content."
What a non sequitur. Or is it a faulty syllogism? Oh, wait, actually it's both!

If you read CBS's "non-discrimination" hiring policy, they place great emphasis on "diversity in the workplace." Liberal women like Mapes run rampant at CBS----and still do.
The only "diversity" CBS does not allow is the hiring of Conservatives.
