Jim Warren on Fox lamenting how this will unfairly tarnish the many fairminded and honest reporters out there and most people don't understand the "nuanced" (yes, he said it) way they work.First, who is Jim Warren, and what moron pays his salary?
Second, is he trying to say that it is our fault that CBS got caught with their pants down trying to unseat the President of the United States? We were just supposed to ignore the fact that the memos were forgeries and take Dan Rather's word for it, in order to protect the image of those "fairminded" reporters he's moaning about?
The arrogance and cluelessness of these media types is just staggering.

While the panel found that some actions taken by CBS News encouraged such suspicions, "the Panel cannot conclude that a political agenda at 60 Minutes Wednesday drove either the timing of the airing of the segment or its content. No surprise, of course, but proof positive that they intend no real change away from bias and toward real journalism. They have a foot-long gaping wound that calls for emergency surgery and they've opted for a Band-Aid instead.

The footnotes in the document contain an erroneous link (http://freerepublic.com/focuslf-news/1210662/posts?q=1&&page=1) Is there any way to actually make that link point to the correct thread and post?
It isn't erroneous, it is mistyped. The lf- after focus should be a slash/
Try this:

Nuanced, huh, Mr. Warren. Is that why CBS has yet to issue a retraction? Because the story's nuanced?

The Panel has not been able to conclude with absolute certainty whether the Killian documents are authentic or forgeries.
And this is a "NEWS" orginization!?!?!?!?

NEWS ALERT
from The Wall Street Journal
Jan. 10, 2005
CBS fired four employees -- including "60 Minutes" producer Mary Mapes -- after an independent investigation into a report about Bush's service in the Texas Air National Guard found that "basic journalistic steps were not carried out in a manner consistent with accurate and fair reporting."

She is a radical leftist who was in a position she could weld her journalistic power to bring down Bush Don't forget that Mapes admitted working on this "story" since 2002. This was an obsession for her. Her ties to Lockhart was only the tip of the iceberg of her incestuous relations with Democrats.
It has been discussed here on FR that the reason for John Kerry's ridiculous "I am John Kerry and I am reporting for duty!" charade was because Mapes had tipped off the Kerry campaign to the Bush "AWOL" story last June.
Kerry and Mary Beth Cahill dreamed up a devious and "brilliant" political strategy. They would contrast Kerry as the "hero who reported for duty versus Bush who did not." The commercials would run in late October, opening with John Kerry's salute to the convention in Boston, full of patriotic music....cut scene to a scowling photo of Bush, somber music, and the announcer saying Bush "failed to report for duty."
Too bad it was all lies and it was exposed as such.

Poor old Rather, now he doesn't have his best producer to go in cahoots with.
Did they say why Rather is leaving in May or whenever??? I thought he was going to stay on for another decade.
To: Timeout
WOW!!! Absolutely fascinating.. Captains Quarters, as well as FreeRepublic spent much time and energy pulling apart and comparing public statements, military documents, books and personal accounts of in-country service with Kerry, but I'd NEVER seen *that* statement before placed in mainstream view. Now the question begs, why was Kerry reassigned?? I vote for the path that puts Kerry in a position of making a deal to avoid being tried for treason, and took a Less than Honorable discharge due to his subversive actions against the American government.
Thanks so much for passing that along! :) ~ jj

I don't imagine the CBS site posts Colonel North's 'open letter' to Kerry where North mentions that after he got his second Purple Heart he turned down all the rest so he could stay with his men? Apparently, you can turn citations down if you wish.
On the other hand, wasn't it Kerry himself who put in for his medals?
To: TomGuy
It isn't erroneous, it is mistyped. The lf- after focus should be a slash/ Ah right! However I think it would be a good idea if he (JimRob) could set up one page that would actually be reachable using the mistyped URL, then have that redirect to the correct URL.

"Rather is effectively fired"How do you figure that?
He gets to keep his position on 60 Minutes II, which is the news program he used to release this "story."
It would have been better to see him fired from the 60 Minutes II program.

It's a long article. I must have missed the part that referred to Rather's "unimpeachable" source ... Yeah, really!
From the article:
The action was prompted by the report of an independent panel that concluded that CBS News failed to follow basic journalistic principles in the preparation and reporting of the piece. The panel also said CBS News had compounded that failure with rigid and blind defense of the 60 Minutes Wednesday report.
They WANTED this to be true. They WANTED to make Bush look bad.
It backfired on them.
Rather should be pitched from the 60 Minutes II show also.

Yup. Where were all these "fairminded and honest reporters" when Buckhead was doing their work for them?
