JANUARY -- NOT CHRISTMAS -- KERRY IN CAMBODIA (More Flip-Flop Spin!)
Drudge Report ^ | 8/12/04 | Matt Drudge

Posted on 08/12/2004 7:13:16 PM PDT by wagglebee

**Exclusive**

TOUR OF DUTY author and John Kerry historian Doug Brinkley is rushing a piece for the NEW YORKER: to set-the-record-straight on Kerry's Christmas in Cambodia tale, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Kerry has turned to author Brinkley for a "modification" after it was exposed that Kerry was not in Cambodia during Christmas of 1968, as he once claimed from the Senate floor.

The Brinkley piece for the NEW YORKER will now say that Kerry was not in Cambodia during Christmas, but rather in January, publishing sources tell DRUDGE.

MORE

Since the early 1970s, Kerry has spoken and written of how he was illegally ordered to enter Cambodia. Kerry mentioned it in the floor of the Senate in 1986 when he charged that President Reagan’s actions in Central America were leading the U.S. in another Vietnam. Here’s what he said as excerpted from the new book, UNFIT FOR COMMAND:

"I remember Christmas of 1968 sitting on a gunboat in Cambodia. I remember what it was like to be shot at by the Vietnamese and Khmer Rouge and Cambodians, and have the president of the United States telling the American people that I was not there; the troops were not in Cambodia. I have that memory which is seared--seared--in me."

John O’Neil’s, author of UNFIT FOR COMMAND, comments on the “clarification:”

“John Kerry describes Christmas Eve in Cambodia as a critical turning point in his life. We now know that his story is completely false. My question is how many people do you know have invented a turning point, one that is seared in his memory? While it makes sense for John Kerry to come clean about the Cambodia story, it is one of several tales that the Kerry campaign will have to face and clarify.”

“By claiming we were engaged in a war crime and crossing international borders, John Kerry damaged the credibility of all the commanding officers above him and insulted the sailors who served with him,” said John O’Neill, member of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.”

I have saved every single document in the military records section to my hard drive (done easily with WinHTTrack).

The bastards won't get away with it.

What specifically has been removed?

Small Combatant Craft Development  History

http://www.warboats.org/stoner4.htm

The details of what makes up preparations for getting under way, and what is useful for a successful mission, require attention, that I suspect was the thing lacking, about which Lt. Kerry's commanding officers were most worried.

Not every pilot remembers all the details of their aircraft from World War II, but they seem to remember an incredible amount. One pilot I know, remembers every switch, lever, knob, and you name it.

The awareness of, and gratitude for, good maintenance demands of all equipment and other preparations, is something that is not forgotten by those who were paying attention.

Every item that your life depends upon.

The preparations to get underway and enter Cambodia for the purpose of inserting a team, would not likely be forgotten by the boat commander and crew and the team leader and its members. Each brings to the mission, awareness of what is vulnerable and therefore what must be made ready.

The preparations for inserting from a Swift, are quite different from the preparations for transporting via a Swift to some position where a team would disembark onto smaller craft and proceed to shore, usually up some tributary.

Sen. Kerry, as reported here, has not even mentioned preparations of either type. Nothing about the guy, is focused on the standards of material readiness, that the job required of him.

Now, a new guy might be more self-concerned and not yet paying as much attention, versus a slightly older hand tending toward thinking more about the boat's condition and readiness. Yet, more often than not, self-concern triggers a "renewed interest" in all kinds of equipment --- what it does, how to keep it best maintained, etc., including visits to people who you learn, "know about these things."

Sen. Kerry does not seem to mention anything about making ready for silent running.

No recollection of customized exhaust mufflers, modified by some "wrench" at a maintenance depot, to further reduce the sounds.

No mention of engine room sound deadener or other "rubberized" and protection weave, anti-fragmentation, "ballistic" material.

Nothing special about the Swift at all, for a mission or more, into Cambodia.

Somehow, I don't think he's going to go in there in broad daylight; if only to not get his picture taken by Agency France Presse stationed along the border with the Mekong, a Pulitzer Prize surprise in waiting.

Especially with S.E.A.L.'s, he's not going to go in there at all with a noisy boat, announcing to one and all (and AFP). From what I've read, the S.E.A.L.'s like to be unheard and unseen.

You could rig a Swift to do that. You could isolate the engines and pad the sheet metal around the boat.

What did he and his crew do to prepare the boat(s) to carry an insertion team into Cambodia?

What guide went with him, to show him these waters where none of the crew had gone before?

What were the accompanying boats and small craft?

Truth is, an officer in charge, who was a man trusted by S.E.A.L.'s, would know all these things.

It's a gear thing.

The link seems to be working now. It is clearly John Lehman's Signature, which obviously is impossible.

Unknown date (likely to be 2nd half of 1969 or early 1970), photo of a Swift boat standing off of the Last Chance Saloon (and possibly another Swift boat adjacent the Saloon) near the border with Cambodia: http://www.tf116.org/vietnam_photos/RPics/Images/10.jpg

(These photos are from the series of photos at Gamewardens of Vietnam - Official Home of Task Force 116: http://www.tf116.org/vgallery.html - which website you may not want to visit via dial-up connection, because it has many photos.)

Morning of invasion of Cambodia; photo of First Wave of Medong River Minesweepers: http://www.tf116.org/vietnam_photos/RPics/Images/24.jpg

Which photo and thought remind me again, of who must have been aboard Lt. Kerry's PCF, in order to guide him past the mines ...

P.S. Those two Swift boats near the Last Chance Saloon, are flagged as Republic of South Vietnam, not U.S. Navy boats.

But you see, it was Christmas before it wasn't Christmas, so Kerry wasn't really lying. Really.

... he was never in Cambodia and they know it.

Caller to Hannity today was comparing parts of Brinkley's book to Kerry's 1st PH. Kerry's journal has an entry, supposedly entered 9 days after the events reported on the 1st PH citation, and the journal entry says "we haven't been shot at yet."

Just passing along some heresay. I haven't read Brinkley's bio of Kerry and made the comparison.

http://www.johnkerry.com/pdf/jkmilservice/Bronze_Star.pdf <-- Still there

don't bother clicking the links to Kerry's records (on Kerry's website), the incriminating PDFs are now blank!

The Bronze citation is still there ... see above. Here is the page that has the link ...

John Kerry's Official Naval Records <-- Mash Here

The only thing that I know of being removed are the SITREPS (situation reports) from January 1969. Also, in the same vein, the parts of the website where the Kerry campaign took credit for being at some hairy situations in January 1969 were removed (Kerry wasn't there, and the January 1969 SITREPS are irrelevant in Kerry's history -- except he attempted to use them to further aggrandize himself to a gullible public)

No problem except that he told the CHRISTMAS STORY about 50 times ON THE RECORD.....this according to Paul O'Neil who is stating this on Hugh Hewitt as I write this.

Ah...I read about that before.

I was under the impression the whole website was taken down or something major had occurred.

If something else is removed beside the Jan spot report, I will have a copy of it.

I can remember where I was at every Christmas in my life. I sure as heck have never mixed up my location at Christmas with my location in the middle of January.

Add to that memory-enhancing dynamic, being in a war zone as a soldier or sailor (etc.) ... where every sense is heightened, when holiday times make memories of home and awareness of the depravities of war more strikingly memorable, and we take a new look at the twisted mind of John F. Kerry.

"Bulls**t, he was never in Cambodia and they know it."

No, he was never there. Of course, the memory was "seared" into him. He's repeated the story many times in many different contexts. But he somehow had a "false recollection" the last time around.

And now? The wonderful liberals in the news media are pretending that nothing happened.

He states the story publicaly 53 times over 35 years and all he has to do is "modify" the story to make it all go away.

Yep, he's a Democrat.

To illustrate how nearly hopeless things are for Bush and the truth remember Joe Wilson - he was the darling of the press (media) for weeks and months as long as he was reporting that Bush was lying about "yellow cake". Well, when the 9/11 Commission came out and basically said Joe Wilson was lying, not a peep about Joe Wilson.

The mainstream media is bringing people onto their nightly "news" shows who outrightly lie about Bush. When their words are refuted elsewhere, those mainstream "news" outlets ignore it. Thus the dumb suckers who still get their "news" in bits of bull from ABC, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, and SeeBS slowly but surely come to believe that Bush is worthless.

The mainstream media is the most destructive force in America.

It will take Bush 'the poker player' to win this election: GWB: HBS MBA --- http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1070924/posts

*********

One final note on George W. Bush’s management style and his Harvard Business School background does not derive from the classroom, per se. One feature of life there is that a subculture of poker players exists. Poker is a natural fit with the inclinations, talents, and skills of many future entrepreneurs. A close reading of the odds, combined with the ability to out-psych the opposition, leads to capital accumulation in many fields, aside from the poker table.

By reputation, the President was a very avid and skillful poker player when he was an MBA student. One of the secrets of a successful poker player is to encourage your opponent to bet a lot of chips on a losing hand. This is a pattern of behavior one sees repeatedly in George W. Bush’s political career. He is not one to loudly proclaim his strengths at the beginning of a campaign. Instead, he bides his time, does not respond forcefully, a least at first, to critiques from his enemies, no matter how loud and annoying they get. If anything, this apparent passivity only goads them into making their case more emphatically.

Only time will tell, whether Saddam ever had any WMDs. Their non-existence has not been proven. Only time will tell whether or not Osama bin Laden (or his corpse) will be taken into custody by American Troops. Only time will tell whether or not Iraq will continue to make progress toward a transition toward a peaceful democratic government. George W. Bush knows much more information about these topics than his domestic political opponents do. At the moment, they are betting a lot of their chips on one side of these questions.

We will see by November who has the winning hand.

*******

I think G.W. has the cards. Too bad Dimocrats!

Thats quite the analysis.

I was noting last night, that John O'Neill Is using a similar methodology
