Kerry Threatens TV Stations Over Swift Boat Ad (Letter Contains "Obvious Lie"; BIG Kerry Stumble!)

Human Events reports that the DNC and the Kerry campaign are writing to television stations, stating that the Swift Boat ads is is "false" and "libelous" and that "your station may not responsibly air this advertisement."
At least one of their points in the letter is an obvious lie: "The advertisement contains statements by men who purport to have served on Senator John Kerry's SWIFT [sic] boat in Vietnam and one statement by a man pretending to be the doctor who treated Senator Kerry for one of his injuries."
Horsepucky.
Every vet in the ad says, "I served with John Kerry," but not one of them claims to have been in his boat. Most of the men are other swiftboat captains. They've been open and clear in their statements that they served in other swift boats operating within 50 yards on Kerry's side, and their statements are their observations on serving alongside him, not under him.
NR's own Byron York had the scoop on Louis Letson, the doctor, months ago. The Kerry letter insists that Letson is a "phony" because he didn't sign Kerry's sick call sheet.
The Los Angeles Times looked at the who-signed-the-form controversy back in May:
"Meehan questioned Letson's role, saying a J.C. Carreon signed Kerry's medical report of the wound. "This gentleman is not the man who is on the report," he said.
Letson said that Carreon, a lower-ranked "hospitalman," was "present at the time and he, in fact, made the entry into Lt. Kerry's medical record."
Bad move, Team Kerry. The letter from the lawyers turns this into a bigger story, and the argument that these men are "phony" doesn't seem all that strong.

I can't believe some of the defeatist WHINING I'm hearing about this ad! One minute, we're complaining about how we wish our side would do the same thing those slimes at MoveOn.org would do. We do that and now some are crying about this possibly backfiring? Bingo. This "oh, deary deary dear" fretting and wringing of hands over the possibility that someone, somewhere may actually give us a real mean, hard look is a great way to win elections... for the other guy. We're fighting a slavishly liberal-compliant mass media, and subhuman propagandists (Michael Moore, etc.) of every stripe and hue. Defeat in '04 means an immediate return to Clinton-era taxes, an extremist Supreme Court for the next quarter-century, and our complete and -- oh, yeah -- unconditional surrender in the War On Terror, as well. This isn't France, and FReepers don't roll over and offer their bellies to the enemy. We only have twelve weeks left in which to save this country -- IS IT WORTH IT, OR ISN'T IT -- ? When people have been complaining for the GWB to get on the offensive - I think we meant get on the offensive and set the record straight when it comes to the lies being put out by Kerry and the DEM 527's !! -
Tell the facts of Kerry's record in the Senate (that is what the public wants to know and are concerned with) -
Tell the facts on the war with Iraq - reset the correct / truthful premise with the American public - Correct the lies that have been spun by Kerry and the DEM's -
Set the record straight with the amazing success we have had on the WOT -
Set the record straight on the economy - How we inherited a recession and we have since turned it around - Tell the facts about job creation, low interest rates, low inflation, taxes being lowered on every tax paying American, manufacturing up, housing up, construction up, etc, etc -
I don't know what good this type of Boat Ad does - We know how the media will spin it - The group doesn't have the funds to respond back to the media lies....so it falls on the Bush camp....who want NO part of it - SO, in the end what good does it do?? -
This is what happened (in a differing way) in 2000 here in MI - The people who wanted School Vouchers...were determined to put it on the ballot....Engler said no, we should wait...we don't have the funds to compete with the Michigan Teachers Union at this time .....But oh no, the fools that "don't roll over"...marched ahead with the school Voucher program and put it on the ballot -
End result they got out spent by about $11 million....they lost the Voucher program in a landslide and GWB lost MI because we had about a 90% Teacher (DEM) turnout -
So because of their short sightedness....not only did we lose the Voucher program (that we need)....GWB very well could have lost MI because of the turnout factor as well.

I only agree with you that every mention of Viet Nam should include the statement about acknowledging his 4 months of service in Viet Nam.

I don't think I will ever understand why most of the hill Republican's think they can cosy up to the press. Or think they can "win" them over if they are nice to them.
The press will never like them. They will never be on their side. They will always try to defeat them. And they will never stop.
The DemoSocialistMarxistClymerLyingLibs in this country are in the lead for 'who's to blame for the fall of America", IMO.

Legally only a lawyer representing John Kerry and not a lawyer from the DNC or the Kerry Edwards campaign could threaten such a lawsuit. Do you have a URL that explains your basis for saying this?

THANKS.
I wonder how many thousands of complaints we could get into their bar review ethics board.
Wouldn't accomplish much but the publicity could be fun.

This is about extending the life of our somewhat democratic somewhat capitalist REPUBLIC AS LONG AS POSSIBLE! I completely agree with you and others with similar sentiments on this thread.

I can't wait to see the pathetic lying turd of a man go back to Massachusetts, with his lifelong dream of being President (so important to him that he no doubt got men killed with his lies), unfulfilled forever.
How long it takes him to die after that is no big deal to me.

and who is the atty who sent the threatening letter?
Gore vs Supreme Court of Fla.
Atty for Move-on.org
1997 ...think Clinton
"The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is protesting as "a serious breach" of secrecy protocol the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee's release of information regarding a deposition of DNC general counsel Joseph Sandler. Sandler, the DNC's top lawyer, invoked broad attorney-client privilege refusing to testify about certain discussions with DNC and White House officials."
When the RNC made a similar request on different grounds......guess who their opponenet and the proponent for MoveON was?
"Republican Party urges broadcasters to refuse ads that criticize Bush
But MoveOn.org's lawyer, Joseph Sandler, said in a statement that the ads were funded legally, calling the RNC's letter "a complete misrepresentation of the law."
