Do you remember that story about the Army Sergeant who fragged his own men just after the invasion of Iraq last year? Let me refresh your memory. Sgt. Hasan Akbar of the 101st Airborne Division lobbed several grenades into the tents of his buddies, killing two and wounding fourteen others. Sgt. Akbar had recently converted to Islam before being assigned overseas prior to the Iraqi invasion and his family members said he was distraught because his fellow platoon members seemingly didn't like him .... so he slipped up to their tent in the night and blew them up. Well, the wheels of justice do turn slowly, don't they. First, his civilian trial lawyers argued for and won a change of venue from Ft. Campbell, KY where the 101st is based, to Ft. Bragg, NC. They claimed that the proximity to his former Army division created a hostile environment and that it would be hard to find an officer board that could fairly judge him. Now, they are arguing for another change of venue. His lawyers not only want the trial moved from Ft. Bragg but they want it taken out of US Army jurisdiction. They are asking for an officer board from other branches of the service, claiming US Army officers would not be able to fairly judge Akbar because of pre-trial publicity and the closeness of the US Army command structure. On top of all that, Sgt. Akbar has seemingly developed "sleep apnea" and keeps falling asleep in the courtroom. What would General Patton do in this situation? Let's ask him ....... "General Patton, what should we do with this man?" "TAKE THIS MENTALLY RETARDED CRETIN OUTSIDE, STAND HIM UP AGAINST THE WALL AND SHOOT HIS SORRY A**! THEN SHOOT HIS ******* LAWYER TOO." "Sir, yes sir!" Case closed. Final Note: Why does it take the US Army eighteen months to bring to trial an Islamic Army trooper who killed his own men but it only takes six week to bring to trial a Sergeant who "humiliated" Iraqi prisoners? And while we're on the subject, why is the story of this f*cktard Akbar only covered in the US Army's press releases and nowhere else while the trial of Sgt. Sivits is put on display for the entire world by the media?Damned Lawyers
In this case his lawyers are U. S. Army officers -- not your typical defense attorneys. So maybe we'll cut them a little more slack than we usually give to lawyers.
Well if you don't make it onto the panel, I predict that those who ARE on the jury will reach a decision you'll agree with.
The author does realize there's a slight difference between being tried for capital murder and being tried for dereliction of duty?
AGREED, next
Don't you sign away your rights to a civilian court when you join the armed services ? I thought so.
I think Sivits pled guilty and gave up info on his cohorts... ? Akbar is Muslim and his lawyers will stall as long as possible to drag out the mistreated, discriminated against defense.
How succinct
Finally, there's a big difference in a trial that may get a decade of multiple, overlapping appeals with a very fine tooth comb -- this is one trial that needs to be done exactly right so that the results (whatever they are) won't be overturned later.
Yes.
**Damned Lawyers (Sgt. who blew up tent of soldiers wants case moved to civilian court)**
Because he know for sure, that he will be convicted in a military court. Tough toenails.
Agreed
SHHHHHHHhhhhhh!
If he's convicted he'll wait out his time in a military prison. So yeah, fellow inmates will all have a military background. But don't worry -- he might be due for a lethal injection some day, but I can assure you that no one will make him wear panties on his head.
Well that's good!
Afterall, we all know how sexually insecure these Mohammedans can be.
I wish it was a civilian court. They'd vote to execute him. This could backfire on ol' Akbar. His attorney is hoping to salt the jury with old timers, but they have more military discipline than their younger counterparts. I wish they still hung traitors.
What he has, if anything-because I think he's playing, is narcolepsy. Apnea has something to do with breathing.
The reporters are around, but they're only allowed to write about our enemies in a positive fashion, and our military and administration in the negative.
LOL!! Yeah, I'd like to get a backrub from Wynona.....again. ;^)
