Damned Lawyers

Do you remember that story about the Army Sergeant who fragged his own men just after the invasion of Iraq last year? Let me refresh your memory.

Sgt. Hasan Akbar of the 101st Airborne Division lobbed several grenades into the tents of his buddies, killing two and wounding fourteen others. Sgt. Akbar had recently converted to Islam before being assigned overseas prior to the Iraqi invasion and his family members said he was distraught because his fellow platoon members seemingly didn't like him .... so he slipped up to their tent in the night and blew them up.

Well, the wheels of justice do turn slowly, don't they. First, his civilian trial lawyers argued for and won a change of venue from Ft. Campbell, KY where the 101st is based, to Ft. Bragg, NC. They claimed that the proximity to his former Army division created a hostile environment and that it would be hard to find an officer board that could fairly judge him.

Now, they are arguing for another change of venue. His lawyers not only want the trial moved from Ft. Bragg but they want it taken out of US Army jurisdiction. They are asking for an officer board from other branches of the service, claiming US Army officers would not be able to fairly judge Akbar because of pre-trial publicity and the closeness of the US Army command structure.

On top of all that, Sgt. Akbar has seemingly developed "sleep apnea" and keeps falling asleep in the courtroom.

What would General Patton do in this situation? Let's ask him .......

"General Patton, what should we do with this man?"

"TAKE THIS MENTALLY RETARDED CRETIN OUTSIDE, STAND HIM UP AGAINST THE WALL AND SHOOT HIS SORRY A**! THEN SHOOT HIS ******* LAWYER TOO."

"Sir, yes sir!"

Case closed.

Final Note: Why does it take the US Army eighteen months to bring to trial an Islamic Army trooper who killed his own men but it only takes six week to bring to trial a Sergeant who "humiliated" Iraqi prisoners? And while we're on the subject, why is the story of this f*cktard Akbar only covered in the US Army's press releases and nowhere else while the trial of Sgt. Sivits is put on display for the entire world by the media?

He should have been tried and executed in the field. This shouldn't have come back to the USA at all.

So Sgt. Genocide wants his case moved to a civilian court? I want to come home from the Institute for Advanced Study after a busy afternoon writing the acceptance letter for my fifth Turning award and receive a relaxing backrub from Mrs Slings and Arrows, neé Wynona Ryder. You don't always get what you want, pal.

"On top of all that, Sgt. Akbar has seemingly developed "sleep apnea" and keeps falling asleep in the courtroom"

I thought sleep apnea was when you forget to breathe while you are asleep,Isn't he describing narcolepsy?

You'd think an ambulance chaser would know the differance.

Stop being a racist. It's obvious that's what's really going on here. :) HA! Just kidding!

You made some excellent points on the trials.

"wants case moved to civilian court"
But,
"They are asking for an officer board from other branches of the service"

So, in your view are officers from the Navy, Air Force, and Marines "civilians"?

On top of all that, Sgt. Akbar has seemingly developed "sleep apnea" and keeps falling asleep in the courtroom.

Sleep apnea does not make you fall asleep. That is narcolopesy (sp??) Sleep apnea is when you stop breathing while you are sleeping. Idiot and idiot lawyer.

I agree summary punishment should have happened immediately after the incident.

I enjoy a good rant as much as the next person. But allow me to add a little clarification. Akbar's defense team did ask for the jury to be composed of service members outside of the Army. And they did ask to move the trial out of Ft. Bragg. But they did not request the trial be moved to civilian courts. Here's the latest from the Army News Service:

Soldier accused of fragging requests change of venue

There aren't many other press reports of the hearing -- I guess all the reporters were at Abu Ghraib for the serious trial action.

Exactly.

Treason on the battlefield is an instant death sentence carried out by whoever has enough brass on their shoulder(the amount varies inversely with how big the scumbag is. In this case a E-1 would work).

Please God, I'll pray the rosary every day for the rest of my life if you let me be on this guy's jury.

Look over here, see that arm in the air, that arm is mine, get me approval, I have the means, the ability and the desire, only one problem, when I do it, it is with malice, hope that does not disqualify me.
