Dad Slugs Man Who Offers Money To Girl For Sex

YORK, Pa. -- What would you do if a man offered to pay your teenage daughter for sex while she was shopping?

Jimmy Hunt punched the man in the face. Prosecutors in York charged Hunt with disorderly conduct and simple assault. But they later dropped the charges after concluding that no jury would convict him.

Prosecutor Bill Graff said you can't take the law into your own hands, but it's likely that they'd get parents who'd say that's what they'd do if it was their daughter.

There's no disputing the fact that Hunt punched Armondo Hernandez in the face after he approached Hunt's 17-year-old daughter while she was shopping for nail polish at a Wal-Mart. Hunt called police after the incident.

Hernandez has pleaded guilty to indecent assault and harassment.

Yeah - no fooling. The makings of a John Grisham novel.

Many times jury nullification is justified.

Jimmy Hunt punched the man in the face.

Jimmy probably learned this from his brother Mike, who’s constantly having to punch out wiseasses.

A bump for a man!

I would say he exercised considerable restraint.

This is prosecutorial discretion in action (and a good thing too.)

The cops, faced with a "shirt-tearing" in a public place, just charged everybody as the line of least resistance.

The DA got the file from the cops, took one look at it, and said, "You want me to prosecute WHAT!??!!!??"

The end. As it usually is, unless you've got a publicity-hound DA who sniffs a chance to get his name on the TV (see Palm Beach County).

You would hope the DA was motivated out of common sense and decency, but even if his decision to forego prosecuting was based only on the likelyhood of no conviction, then at least it's a step in the right direction.

And if people were better educated about the Constitution and the origins of jury nullification (and just better educated), we wouldn't be living with all the unconstitutional laws we have.

The father was protecting his kid.

Exactly. Who's to say the creep would have taken "no" for an answer instead of trying to take by force what would not be sold?

I agree. It was one factor in the repeal of the first prohibition and it may work again on other abusive laws.
