.................................................................
The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.
FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.
I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

You may want to put this away to try at Christmas...
Stollen is a luxurious continental Christmas cake, now popular in Britain. It can be traced back to 1329. The lighter texture combined with a delicious flavour will give you a Christmas tea with a real difference.
Makes 1 loaf
Plain flour - 700g (1½ lb)
Butter - 25g (1 oz)
Dried yeast - 15g (½ oz)
Caster sugar - 65g (2½ oz)
Salt - pinch
Lemon - 1, zest only
Ground cardamom - 1 tsp
Ground mace - 1 tsp
Dried mixed fruit - 175g (6 oz)
Milk - 300 ml (½ pint), warmed
Eggs - 2, beaten
Rum - 2 tbsp
Marzipan - 50g (2 oz)
Butter - 50g (2 oz), melted
Icing sugar - 50g (2 oz)
METHOD
Sift the flour into a mixing bowl, rub in the butter and add the remaining ingredients except the marzipan, melted butter and icing sugar. Form a soft dough, knead lightly. Return to the bowl, cover with a clean damp cloth, leave to prove in a warm place for 1 hour.
Knead the dough until smooth. Divide in half, shape into rectangles 18 x 7.5 cm (7 x 3 inches). Shape the marzipan into a roll 18 cm (7 inches) long. Place the roll down the centre of one rectangle of dough. Fold the dough over to encase the marzipan. Seal the edges, put the sealed edge underneath. Roll the remaining dough into a roll the same length as the other one.
Place the two rolls close together on a baking sheet. Cover and leave to prove for 20-30 minutes. Bake at 240 °C / 475 °F / Gas 9 for 2 minutes. Turn down the heat to 170 °C / 325 °F / Gas 3 for 50 minutes. Brush with melted butter, dust with icing sugar.
I think I will stick with the cinnamon toast!! LOL

I checked the google store for something other than poems today.
It's Louie's fault, he wanted cinnamon toast this morning.

I am not surprised. Those Country artists don't like their kind of people. You are right. We would be better off if they would just leave the country. :)

I really need to be writing more. You get a bit rusty when you let it go.
I may see if I can find some of my poetry from years gone by....dust it off and put some of it up here. What a *great* forum!!

Thanks for starting a new thread, Amy - already the poems and sentiments and food and koffee today are filling the room with such beauty - and calories! Dansy, your poems are just breathtaking.
This is the neatest thread, fun, friendly, entertaining.

Hello everyone! My muse showed up around 3 a.m. and inspired the following. (I warn you in advance that my muse is a bit strange.)
Is there any coffee left?
Royal Pain
In this rhyme, I'll tell you a story of two seekers of fame and glory one wants to be royal the other so loyal if you cross them, you'll soon be sorry.
The pretender who needs adulation now professes victimization 'I did not solicit a thing deemed illicit' claims she with much indignation.
And then to her consternation the record shows impersonation you must have no mind (or be one of her kind) to believe any of her proclamations.
Hiding the truth, she tries to deflect onto those whose trust she's wrecked and her minions so spiteful find the task delightful at all cost, the queen they protect.
These witches with a sick malediction (a shrink would call it projection) through anonymous names they play evil games and their charges are nothing but fiction.
But this pair made a miscalculation with their unjustified provocations their fate is sealed, the truth soon revealed they can just wait with trepidation.

Seems my inspiration made a detour on it's way back here.
It was with your muse.
We'll see if it remains, and if you're permanently infected.
