Poetry and Potpourri ........ September 22, 2003

.................................................................

The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.

FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.

I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

JustAmy...... a rather sneaky way to get me here. Dansy must've informed you about my poetry skills. :-)

Wish' ya luck on your new "Poetry and Potpourri" thread!

Since I don't have a poem to contribute here's some potpourri instead. :)

I think poetry is great, but I forgot to mention that I really would prefer to get there without being "pinged."

Please do not ping me to the thread.

Thank you.

It is my wish that this will become a place for all FReepers to come, relax, share a poem, a joke or a story but also a place to get acquainted with other FReepers.

Thank you for your interest in this new Thread. JustAmy

I need to duck out for a meeting for awhile.

I know there are several pings that I have missed. I hope to get back to you later this evening.

Thank you all for making this an exciting day at Poetry and Potpourri.

Our Tree

Roses and candlelight, we've seen before
And passionate nights, we'll have many more
But since it's your gift I was thinking of
I wanted something that meant, enduring love

The tallest candle, the freshest rose
The most passion-filled night, quickly goes

My love is not like a red, red rose,
Or A summer's day, as the poets say
It has no wings, as the saying goes,
For wings may betray, and fly love away

My love will last an eternity,
I can best compare it to, a tree

A tree that keeps growing, year after year
A tree that bears fruits
A tree with deep roots

A tree that when dry winter winds do appear
While roses may die
My tree's standing by

It bends with the wind, it reaches for light
It captures the rain, it shelters the night
Each year adds branches, each day adds leaves
With twists and turns, and bends, and weaves

So much to remember, so much to explore
As much as there is, there will be, much more
So come, let us sit and see what we've grown
This tree of life and love that we jointly own

What a wonder it is, what a sight to see
Now you know why it is, that I give you, a tree

that's beautiful, zencycler!

I agree... a tree is a much better gift to express enduring love than a bouquet of roses that will just die in a few days anyway. :)

thanks for sharing!

Air Refueling is one thing, Air Cargo is another. I'm very familiar with the 19th AREFW, but never heard of the 19th Air Cargo Wing, hence my post. BTW, today's cargo units are referred to as airlift squadrons or airlift wings.

WOW! Congratulations and thank you for taking on another Freeper task Amy. I'll say this for you. You are a glutten for punishment (sweet, but a glutten for punishment). Up up and away....

Thanks for the "ping"!
