A US Coast Guard officer was killed during a suspected random shooting in Washington state as police launched a search for the suspected killer.

Coast Guard Lieutenant Connor Overstreet was fatally shot just before 12:40 a.m. Sunday in a residential neighborhood of Bryn Mawr-Skyway, Wash., 10 miles south of Downtown Seattle.

First responders found the 29-year-old in the roadway and attempted life-saving procedures, but the active-duty service member later died, Fox 13 Seattle reported.

Overstreet’s death was ruled a homicide from a gunshot wound to the chest, the King County Medical Examiner announced Tuesday.

No arrests have been made and officials have not publicly identified a suspect in the shooting.

The county sheriff’s office created a tipline asking for residents to submit any surveillance footage facing the street between 12:30 a.m. and 1:15 a.m. Sunday.

Additional details about the shooting were not released because of the ongoing investigation.

Overstreet, a native of Reno, Nevada, was stationed at California’s Air Station Ventura at the time of his death.

His remains were flown back to the base Friday with full honors.

Not all of it, or even most. The Skyway park area has been the ghetto forever, and has the highest violent crime rate in the metro area. It was also the first “minority-majority” area in WA.

You do the math.

Coast Guard Lieutenant rank is O-3, equivalent to an Army Captain.

The U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Service (CGIS) is a federal law enforcement agency whose law enforcement authority is derived from Title 14 of the United States Code. This authority provides for Coast Guard special agents to conduct investigations of actual, alleged or suspected criminal activity; carry firearms; execute and serve warrants; and make arrests.

Because the Coast Guard is actively involved in international interdiction, anti-smuggling operations and much more, they will not assume that this is just random street violence, until shown otherwise.

"...a residential neighborhood of Bryn Mawr-Skyway, Wash., ..."

That the first Welsh place name I've ever seen in America. And with good reason, Welsh place names are horrific. There's a village in Wales named Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

I typed that from memory, I didn't cut and paste it. And that honest-to-goodness is a real village name.

And I'm not lying neither (except about the 'typed from memory' part).

I lived briefly in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, home to the (formerly) prestigious Bryn Mawr College. I was a pocket of poverty in a sea of affluence.

While they can’t match the monster you have shown us, there are quite a few Welsh place names in Pennsylvania. Here are a few:

Bala Cynwyd — named for Bala (Gwynedd) and Cynwyd (Denbighshire)

Bryn Mawr — “great hill”; named for an estate near Dolgellau belonging to Quaker Rowland Ellis

Narberth — after Narberth, Pembrokeshire

Lower Gwynedd and Upper Gwynedd Townships / North Wales — after the historic region of Gwynedd

Penllyn — “head of the lake”

Tredyffrin Township — Welsh-formed name meaning roughly “town in the valley”

Uwchlan Township — “above the lake/valley”

Prayers for Lieutenant Overstreet and his loved ones. And prayers that his murderer is brought to justice.

Seattle is HORRIBLE now!!! We loved in a high rise in Belltown for 5 years 23 years ago, and it was FABULOUS!! Could walk around at night, etc......but the last 2 times I have been there, it is absolutely HORRIBLE! I wouldn’t even leave our beautiful downtown hotel until the next day to get on the ship!

A lot of Welsh settled in Pennsylvania early on because they brought their skilled coal mining experience.
