Two workers at Germany’s busiest airport die of malaria after mosquitoes arrive on plane

Two workers at Germany’s busiest airport have died of malaria amid an outbreak in the travel hub believed to be caused by mosquitoes that arrived on a plane.

Two Frankfurt Airport workers died after contracting the illness transmitted by mosquitoes, a spokesperson for Fraport, which operates the airport, told the BBC late Wednesday.

The pair of workers, who have not yet been identified, were sickened in a rare outbreak first detected in July, according to the airport.

A total of six male airport employees in different jobs and areas of the airport were infected with malaria in the outbreak, the outlet reported.

The four other employees have since recovered from malaria, German outlet Der Spiegel reported.

Officials believe that the mosquitoes arrived at the bustling airport on a plane — and are now rushing to determine whether a single mosquito or multiple spread malaria to the workers.

In mid-July, the Robert Koch Institute, Germany’s national public health institute, wrote in a bulletin that four airport employees fell ill with malaria between July 4 and July 6.

The malaria is assumed to have spread via an infected Anopheles mosquito — also known as a Marsh mosquito — on a plane, the institute wrote.

Malaria does not spread directly from person to person; transmission requires an infected female Anopheles mosquito, with rare exceptions such as blood transfusion, organ transplant, needle sharing, or mother‑to‑child transmission.

Years ago, I flew on planes where employees would walk down the aisle spraying for bugs. I think it was when we landed in Mexico. Or maybe when we came back.

Sounds like Germany is following the lead of Biden’s Girls and now is also importing millions of Latin American Third World types.

When I went to Germany a couple of years ago, I flew into, and out of, Frankfurt.
Everyone in Germany was very nice to me, even at the Frankfurt Airport, except for one person: an American from Mississippi who somehow got a job there working in security.
He was the biggest jerk I have ever encountered in any airport (and I have travelled a lot). Utterly obnoxious.

Where are "hippopotamus deaths" listed in that graphic of yours? My understanding was that more Africans die annually from hippopotamus attacks than from crocodile attacks.

Guess again!

Quick - shut the world down, make the vaccines mandatory for all - or....bring back DDT. Who else has noticed that since it was “banned” for being so deadly, all the best insect repellents have it as an ingredient?

Maybe the mosquitoes hid out in the baggage compartment.

The the baggage handlers got bit when the baggage was removed from the plane.

A very disturbing thought occurred to me.

What if some nefarious country has weaponized malaria?

This could be a field test. I do not recall this type of thing ever happening before.

With MicroSoft breeding and releasing mosquitoes then this happens.

It makes me a little suspicious.
