Consumers are being encouraged to check their freezers for a product that might contain harmful or potentially deadly bacteria.
In the latest recall linked to salmonella risks associated with powdered milk, a popular frozen food sold by Costco and Walmart has been pulled from shelves.
The Hill provided these details:
The most recent recall was shared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Monday. Select batches of Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread were recalled because the dry milk powder was used in the five-cheese sauce blend.
Other recalls linked to the powder impact frozen pizzas, pork rinds, multiple Zapp’s and Dirty brand chips, several snack mixes sold under brand names Fisher, Squirrel Brand, Southern Style Nuts, and Target’s private label, Good & Gather; select croutons sold at Kroger stores in several states; specialty beverages; and select 3-ounce bottles of Pork King Good Sour Cream & Onion seasoning products.
Also recalled because of the powder were several batches of sour cream and onion cheese curds sold only in New York, select pita chips sold at Giant Eagle stores in five states, a specific lot of sour cream and onion popcorn seasoning, multiple products containing a white cheddar seasoning, and a parmesan ranch seasoning product sold at Walmart stores nationwide.
Food recalls have been in the news a lot over the past few years, with the latest salmonella risks increasing the pace:
A report from Prevention added this:
According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), salmonella is a group of bacteria that can cause gastrointestinal illness and fever. It can spread through raw or undercooked foods or via improper food handling.
Most people who become infected with salmonella develop symptoms (such as diarrhea, fever, or cramps) between 6 hours and 6 days after exposure, and are sick for four to seven days, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). However, at-risk populations like young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems can fall very ill—developing lethargy, a rash, and blood in the urine or stool—and could face the risk of death.
More rarely, salmonella infection can lead to complications, including infection of the blood, bones, joints, brain, or other organs. These complications cause additional symptoms.

Salmonella is killed by cooking. This is probably a concession to those who eat this stuff without cooking it according to the instructions, but what a waste.
to match the heavy regulatory risk in fresh lettuce, spinach and also dairy - we should be paying $10/LB for lettuce, and $50/LB for cheese.
My raw chicken doesn’t taste as good as it used too.
“Select batches of Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread were recalled because the dry milk powder was used in the five-cheese sauce blend.” I won’t be eating any of that.
The milk is pasteurized before being made into powder. There should be no way salmonella could be in the product.
And if somehow the machinery was contaminated spot checking should have found it before it got out the door.
How many non english speaking people have had a hand in the processing of the product.
Granted, there are enough english speaking incompetents, but.
Every batch is supposed to be checked for pathogens. You then issue a certificate of analysis because without that your product is not going anywhere. That is SOP with food.
Someone is not doing their job.
I do handle raw chicken as if it were poison (because it can be). Scrub knives, cutting board, counters, etc., with Lysol wipes. But spraying Lysol directly ON the chicken has not entered my mind.
That was my first thought. If you cook pizza then any salmonella would be dead. Who eats uncooked pizza?
sarcasm
I love Motor City Pizza. Never had their cheese bread though. I think I will give it a pass for a while.
Love that DEEtroit style pizza. If you can’t get to DEEtroit, then Motor City Pizza is the next best thing.
Hard to believe most bacteria survive freezing. But i guess there are always exceptions.
And if somehow the machinery was contaminated spot checking should have found it before it got out the door.>>> Can we ask if this stuff comes from China?
Major supplier countries exporting to the U.S. include the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, China, and South Africa.
Thank goodness it hasn’t affected the pickled pigs feet. There’s one long one that looks gnarly and has a green tint to it. But it’s probably 9kay.
“Motor City Pizza”
that name alone should have warned off any reasonable person from buying that product in the first place ...
