“What am I supposed to buy now—just basics? None of the snacks go through on EBT.”

“I’m at checkout and it keeps declining—now I gotta use my OWN hard earned money for food."

It’s not just food stamps. I recently turned someone in for 5 years of Medicaid fraud. She was working the whole time for cash. She got the best healthcare for free. Eventually she was Medi/Medi. I paid for my Medicare and supplement the whole time and really had to watch what I bought to eat because of lower money. She was shopping at Sprout’s. So yeah, I hope they make her pay back every dime and it would thrill me if they jailed her for fraud. Every government welfare program is rife with fraud.

Why wasn't candy and sugary drinks banned before?

I am now getting old yet I remember when I was young food stamps were only for the basic foods, and not candy and processed foods.

Not unnoticed by those of us who stood in the checkout lines behind these people.

My recollection of poor people when I was a kid is they might have gotten government commodities, churches often helped out and they maybe got a few welfare dollars. Those people had old junker cars, if they had any at all, no TV, ragged clothes and run down homes. None of them were fat.

This woman today is a total disgrace to our culture.

I understand that they don’t get it. However change is hard and people can work with each other to learn.

Hunger is the greatest of motivators.

He’s right but now at least 60% of illegals are on welfare and some have tax free day labor jobs.

Deport and often

Quietly removed the SNAP signs for a better read, then lay it on a shelf. The signs are meant to bring pressure on our government to reverse the policy. The recipients will figure it out at the check out.

They are spending MY STOLEN TAX DOLLARS, so I and all taxpayers ought to absolutely have a say in what they spend it on.

Also, some of these freeloaders are getting an enormous amount of money on their EBT cards. That should end too. They can get a job if they want to buy junk food and other luxuries.

There is no US food program for the Orthodox in Israel.

And it wasn’t us, but a Ukrainian fraud prosecutor, who discovered the sleight of hand by some officials in Ukraine.

The real sleight of hand was that those particular crooks in Ukraine were redirecting money back to Democratic officials here in the US, ironically the same Democrats who were also accepting bribes from Russia, in exchange for gifts of control over uranium mine operations both here and in Kazakhstan, so they could keep Iran supplied, I suppose. The same Iran which sells Russia missiles to attack Ukraine.

Those Ukrainian officials who were wasting the money were essentially assisting Russia by diverting needed funds to themselves and away from their national defense. That means they are pro-Russia in fact if not in name, probably communist clingers, like Putin’s allies in Russia are old communist clingers, or members of the Russian mafia which is surprisingly diverse.
One thing for certain is that they aren’t the patriotic Ukrainians we are trying to help- and the existence of such crooks does not in any way diminish the patriots any more than the corrupt democrats here mean that the American people as a whole, or America in principle, is corrupt. It means only that there were some corrupt people in need of being indicted and tried.

Russia , like the Palestinians in Gaza, has also been the beneficiary of largesse from US taxpayers, despite the corruption there. They would not have been helping Hillary Clinton during Russiafate if they weren’t getting benefits from it. Oleg Deripaska was Putin’s pal, not Zelensky’s, after all.
And the FBI official McGonigal who got caught wasn’t a Ukr pal, he was a Russian asset.

Bags of rice, cans of Spam, corned beef and mackerel, flour, salt, sugar, dried beans, cooking oil, noodles, cans of tomatoes and varied vegetables, oatmeal, distributed from a warehouse to those showing their ID and a SNAP card. If they want treats, they can bake a cake or cookies. If they want soda, they can buy it.

Sufficient nutrition for those not too lazy to cook.

An Emory U study found that a sub-culture tradition of sugar drinks, sugar food led to sugar addiction and expensive Medicaid health costs.

But the impact on the taxpayer of sugar addition is still 2d to the impact on the taxpayer of tobacco, alcohol, drugs, stds.

Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we start to subsidize.

Yeah, you know that is all I ever buy at the grocery store and I’m not on food stamps.

No need for shame, not at all.

The system was put into place for situations just as yours.

I was several months looking for work right out of grad school. If DW didn't have a job, we might have seen you in the food stamp office.

It was a tough time. But we made it through.

The lessons I learned about scratch cooking then, when I was 17 have served me well all my life.

When I homeschooled the children part of how they entertained friends was to use the kitchen and make goodies.

Most of their friends were enchanted to have run of a real cooking kitchen.
