Jaguar Land Rover could soon develop a part-petrol road car despite planning to go completely electric, according to reports. The British brand is reportedly drawing up plans for a vehicle powered partly by a combustion engine, which will be known as a “range-extended electric vehicle”.
This is likely to have a small petrol engine fitted to charge the main battery. But the component could be fitted to ease drivers' concerns about running out of power. According to experts, an additional petrol engine could extend the range of new Jaguar cars by around 400km, rising from 700km to 1,100km.
The iconic Jaguar and Land Rover logos are prominently displayed on a modern building, signifying luxury automotive excellence and British heritage.
Despite The Sunday Times reports, Jaguar seemed to suggest that nothing was changing, although they didn’t deny a petrol-powered car was in the works.
In a statement to Express.co.uk, a spokesperson for Jaguar Land Rover said: “Our plans to reinvent Jaguar as an electric-only luxury automotive brand are unchanged. Last month, prototype passenger rides received overwhelmingly positive reactions from global media, and we are looking forward to unveiling the first new electric Jaguar later this year. "
Jaguar unveiled its major brand overhaul at the end of 2024, ditching its focus on elegant and sporty designs to focus on electric models. As part of this, Jaguar revealed its dramatic new Type 00 model, which looked completely different from models previously revealed.
The rebrand was quickly blasted, with many considering the new approach to be “woke”. Last year, Rawdon Glover, managing director of Jaguar, seemed to suggest that Jaguar had made mistakes with the rebrand.

Rawdon told Autocar: “The past is vital after all, we're in our 90th year but perhaps we haven't explained well enough that Jaguar shouldn't want to repeat itself. It's not in our DNA. Look at the step from E-Type to XJS.
“One of my key learnings since we first showed the Concept 00 a year ago has been that we didn't take enough time to explain why Jaguar had to change. When you lay that out clearly, people tend to get it."

Yeah, my electric would have a trailer generator charging the battery as I drive
I am in aerospace and have been near 25 years all over the world. The last thing you want to hear is “we are rebranding.” Or anything with the prefix “re.” I have been through it all.
We are a stuffy old bunch who actually think airplanes should take off and land safely.
But what do I know...
I put windmills on my car. The faster I go the more power I create. Damn the laws of thermodynamics..l.l
He was a great guy guy to work with. I've no idea if he ever got that plant built or where it was if it happened. I got moved on to other projects.
That picture you offered seems like it might scare any self respecting Jaguar off. Like WAY OFF.
What's with the guy with the bite taken out of his afro? Wait, guy? I don't really want to know.
I think hybrid is the way to go“
That is the reflex but it’s wrong. Two power sources additional unneeded complexity more points of failure and more. An ICE vehicle that is not strangled by stupid unnecessary regulations is the way to go.
Funny everyone thinks Bruce Lee is Chinese. I don’t know if he ever stepped foot on Chinese soil. Hong Kong doesn’t count. He was born on US soil. Those Chinese commie bastards have no right to that soil.
They destroyed it. That’s why I left.
I’d get a good pack mule before I’d buy a Faguar piece of junk.
Too late Faguar
You are correct that it is more complex, but I would argue at least in the prius’ case(which extends to most toyotas) The Hybrid system enhances longevity of the engine, costs less to maintain, better fuel economy and removes several issues with ICE cars. Has no starter and the A/C Pump and the water pump are electric, which the design is less prone to failure then a traditional Drivebelt driven design.
Prius’ have battery issues mainly due to lack of airflow to cool it. The 2nd and third gens have one vent on the passenger side to cool the battery. It gets clogged with debris and blocks air flow. Very rarely do any mechanic shops care to clean this out.
My experience with British cars was in the early 70’s, I worked on a lot of them as a mechanic out of high school. They were always quirky cars. The early XKE Jaguars were fun to drive but really miserable to work on.
You were each chosen because you are a freak.
Why bother?
There was fury in some quarters, but that is not the reason. The reason is that EV lithium battery technology is junk science - shit. Failed. Doesn’t work and never will. Insurance companies will shut it down because no one in their right mind would all some Chinese shitbox parked in an underground garage to take down a Billion dollar building because it got a few transistors overheated. And, the entire carbon footprint movement is also junk science.
Despite the valid points you make on balance ICE is the better option by far if you want anything other than a commute/grocery car.
Despite the best efforts of Jaguar engineers, they were unable to find a way to get all-electric cars to leave oil spots on the driveway.
Lol. Lol. Lol.
Insane. How can any company be proud announcing they plan to lose 85% of their customers? Fags and trannies are, what, 2% of the population? Are they gonna buy up all the Faguir stock? Even the homos in the US just bought Miatas. Oh well. It will be fun enjoying the continued self destruction of Faguire.
I have seen numerous parking garages that do in fact prohibit EV’s. Hmm now why would they do that?
