Reuters reports that Peruvian authorities announced the discovery of a major lost ancient city in the country's Barranca province. The site of Peñico was founded high in the Andes mountains between 1800 and 1500 b.c. following the collapse of the nearby Caral culture, which is often considered the oldest civilization in the Americas. The site features a monumental central plaza with a large circular structure and walls bearing relief sculptures and depictions of pututus, or conch shell trumpets. Over the past several years, archaeologists have uncovered 18 buildings that include residential complexes and ceremonial temples. Among the objects they recovered within the structures were human and animal figurines, ceremonial objects, and necklaces made from beads and seashells. The researchers believe that the site once served as a major trading hub between communities of the Pacific coast and cultures in the Andes Mountains or Amazon River Basin. "They were situated in a strategic location for trade, for exchange with societies from the coast, the highlands and the jungle," said Ruth Shady Solís, director of the Caral Archaeological Zone. Killroy was there first?
Looks like the crash site of the USS Enterprise.
You should get a job writing for the Bee !
Pic on the left looks like Pepe.
Feels like a Lovecraft story. The Plateau of Leng is generally considered to be in Asia, near Tibet, but in fact it’s location is nebulous and it could be anywhere. Perhaps in the Andes.
I had the opportunity to visit Caral in 2017.
Like this site, the Caral area is pretty void of vegetation.
Maybe back then it looked better, but I wondered how anyone could have survived there.
A fixer upper.
That would have been about the time of the Minoan Warm Period.
That’s what happens when those Federation jokers mess around with time travel.
🤪
I think the Plateau of Leng can be located, just look offshore for the Isles of Lengerhans.
Paging Doug McClure!
I hope they didn’t do any head-lopping or open heart surgery.
Those Mayans were real cut ups. Who would want to visit them?
Our ancestors kept losing cities...
Is he related to the actor, Troy McClure?

I wonder what the elevation of Penico, Peru is?
From the link in the article.
Facades of some of the site’s structures bear painted reliefs made of clay and grass that depict part-human, part-amphibian beings. “These strange, uncanny creatures are really unusual,” says Trever. “In one, a frog seems to be coming out of the stone with cartoonlike hands. There’s nothing else like that.”
