In today’s weather forecast, we are talking about a rare and spectacular northern lights display expected to light up skies across much of the United States. tonight. A powerful geomagnetic storm is underway, allowing the aurora to be visible as far south as the central Plains, Ohio Valley, and even parts of the Deep South. Skies will need to be clear and dark, so head away from city lights for the best chance to see it. Infrastructure impacts, like power grid issues, cannot be ruled out. This is one of the most widespread aurora events in years, get all the latest details in today’s forecast.

for some more doom stuff—there are three storms and itsd feared they will join together to create a Carrington Event...Yippee... BTW we had borealias last night in NOrthern California. Storm coming in so cloudy skies tonight..
I think afbxyz has been enjoying Oklahoma’s number one cash crop.
Geo, Galaxy, Nova, Saturn, Mercury, etc.
And yet, no carmakers ever named anything after Uranus.
I guess God decided to put on a light show last night for some of His people who had never seen it before. I hope He makes one again tonight.
I myself would love to see the light show. Hopefully I can catch at least a glimpse this evening.
For me, fear-porners are at their most irritating when they get excited about things like the glorious weather we’ve been having here, then in the next breath solemnly list various bad things that COULD happen.
I see that behavior every year during tornado season. For example, there’s always celebrating when a really bad storm misses populated areas. But then some porner or other inevitably chimes in with “. . . but it COULD ramp back up . . More storms COULD develop . . . We’re not out of the woods yet . . . “
Regardless, I’m going to hope for a good view tonight.
My sister in NM just sent me some pics of that from last night. Beautiful.
I believe she is near Ruidoso.
Why are people so stinking obsessed with the doom aspect of this????
I didn’t post it for the doom aspect. I posted it as a *YEA! An aurora for some people who never get to see one. It’s better than fireworks.*
All the doom mongers need to start their own doom and gloom thread over all the fear porn over a Carrington event and stop raining on everyone’s parade.
Nice! It’s very rare to see them in New Mexico.
Well metmom, so far all HF frequencies have been behaving pretty poorly—that is one aspect of these geomagnetic storms so far. Let’s hope it goes no further. But if we wake up tomorrow and the fridge isn’t humming and the toaster isn’t toasting, then its a new day indeed...
I realize that. What I object to is the thread hijacking by all the *nothingburger* wet blankets.
Hope you can see it.
I saw one really gorgeous one once and will never forget it.
It is worth looking for it.
Nothing so far in East Texas. Lots of locals with pictures from last night. Dang.
Same here.
COMPLETELY overcast.
