Long-term cannabis use can lead to severe vomiting, and U.S. emergency departments are seeing increasing numbers of adolescents with this illness, according to recent research out of Boston.Increases were seen across the U.S., regardless of states’ recreational cannabis legalization status, the study said. Severe nausea and vomiting caused by long-term cannabis use is called cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome, according to the Cleveland Clinic. The only cure is to stop using cannabis, although hot baths and showers may relieve symptoms.
Research findings recently published in a research letter in JAMA Network Open stated that:
-U.S. emergency department visits for cannabis hyperemesis syndrome among adolescents increased more than 10-fold in recent years. From 2016 through 2023, cannabis hyperemesis syndrome encounters among 13- to 21-year-olds increased by 49% per year.
-Overall, from 2016 through 2023, there were 4,571 identified cannabis hyperemesis syndrome cases in U.S. emergency departments, with a median age of 17.
-Nearly two-thirds of patients were female, 38.7% were white, 28.4% were Hispanic, and 24.8% were Black.
-The number of emergency department visits related to cannabis hyperemesis syndrome increased by 32.5% per million emergency department encounters per year in states with recreational cannabis legalization, and by 49.3% per million per year in states that have not legalized recreational cannabis, researchers said.

Maybe they’re putting additives in it to potentiate it? I recall that some physicians were prescribing it to chemo patients to mitigate the nausea (I think in the ‘90’s).
These people are probably using it waaaaaaaaay too much, way more than occasional/moderated use.
Perhaps Mr. Leroy can drop by and enlighten us concerning the flawed methodology of this study.
Frequent vomiting can severely damage the throat lining.
Naah, the illness is stupidity.
Same as always.
Stupidity helps weed (pun intended) out the idiots of all incomes.
Huh?
In Gastroparesis, Cannabis Use May Increase Health Care Utilization
And Big Med is saying let's hear it for legal weed!
I've heard that there's so much fentanyl out there that unscrupulous types are even putting it in pot. To recall how 1970s me was disgusted by too many stems and seeds. Now it's literally Russian Roulette with your health and life on the line for a stupid vice.
Too much, too much, you took too much.
Maybe it’s starting to be exposed and hopefully it will sink in that legalizing marijuana was a HUGE mistake. The legalization of pot needs to be reversed. I grew up in the sixties and I can attest that pot is a snake in the grass and anyone who believes that pot is harmless is only fooling themselves.
It is becoming the haven here in Albuquerque for cannabis users.
There are so many pot stores now that you can throw a rock and hit two other pot stores from every one of them. And more stores are opening up every month while I haven’t seen one of them closed down.
There is no way these stores can possibly make a profit while operating legally.
The situation here will have to end but it will not end well.
Wait until the cancer starts showing up.
Mixing Cheetos with the Ding Dongs. Stuff happens.
ER folks call it scromiting

Sounds like reefer madness....
Gee, it is almost as if recreational drug use is just as dangerous and harmful as we always knew it was...who knew?
Of course it also doesn’t affect anyone but the user - so what if the healthcare system is being even further strained? Maybe the night you have a medical emergency won’t be one where the ambulances were already busy with people who were doing this...and hospital staff are already busy with drug addicts...and you’ll barely notice the increase in healthcare costs, premiums, etc. this is also causing...
The black market, drug cartels, crime syndicate, etc. business has thrived and ballooned as a result of “legalization” and even “medical marijuana” - not to mention making increasing amounts of our population even dumber with lower IQs and more docile and prone to violent reactions and outbursts, increases in schizophrenia, etc.
Problem solved. Have a few tacos and a Coke. ;-)
Any references?

“Medical marijuana”. LOL!
Many medicines have unpleasant or dangerous side effects. Pot is no different.
