I remember a few years back (actually quite a few) Jaguar’s ad campaign amounted to “we’re not that bad anymore”.
This sets Jaguar up for a future campaign (should they last that long) of “we’re not that woke anymore”.
The image and status symbol aspect is the dominant factor but the drivetrains have a significant functional difference.
Most high end luxury cars are rear-wheel drive (RWD) whereas many GM and Kia models are built with front-wheel drive (FWD), all-wheel drive (AWD), and some with four-wheel drive (FWD).
Rear hatches, sliding doors, truck beds, etc. are also significant functional differences.

You are right. Problem is that upper management had no clue on how to fix their company so they relied on a person that sells them on a “Hail Mary” pass.
Hail Mary passes work occasionally in sports, but almost never in business.
It is truly the Bud Light model. Forget your base and try to find a completely new group of customers. The article even says they expect only 20% or so present Jaguar customers to repeat buy. That is a death knell for the company.

Tata has been telegraphing this for a couple of years. Last years F-Type R model with a v-8 was the final copy for that line.
A good friend of mine flew across the country to snag one in BRG w/Saddle interior and drive it home. It's a stunning car. Hope the embarrassment factor isn't too much for him.
