Maybe I'm slow, but I just realized why Gaetz goes to Justice Dept.

I would have said, "I get it; Gaetz will be appointed by recess appointment, but won't his appointment still have a pointless political cost?" I mean, he's innocent until proven guilty, but hardly exonerated, and it's all still kind of a yucky situation for an Attorney General to have been in.

Then I realized: the way to get rid of him is to appoint the next guy he picks. You want to get rid of Gaetz? Then you have to vote for (say for humorous example) Mark Levin as your next Attorney General.

BRILLIANT!

Lots of speculation on various things related to this appointment today, and none of it seems outlandish. Just a few points to consider:

1. Trump hasn't made a single official nomination yet to any of these posts. He's not even President yet.

2. This means that if anyone is going to fill one of these cabinet positions through a recess appointment, it must happen AFTER January 20th.

3. This leads me to believe that some of these announcements are mainly intended to test Senate Republicans up front to see how they will likely vote in a confirmation battle after January 20th.

4. There's also a good possibility that some of these are just clownish "appointments" aimed at getting attention and pissing a lot of D.C. insiders off. LOL.

I hear the council of fools in your words.

No offense intended.

I was deadly serious when I said Mark Levin was the right choice on an earlier thread. It also occurred to me that Gaetz is expendable to get Levin.

Guilty of what? He was exonerated. It was an extortion attempt.

Which law enforcement entity has charged Gaetz with anything?

Will Levin permanently attach the Lincoln head to his right shoulder if he moves to the Beltway?

You may be right. Some of these picks may be to smoke the snakes out of the grass.

And who would be a serious choice? Someone like Josh Hawley? Ted Cruz?

These are the only people that haven’t tried to throw Trump and his cohorts and appointees in jail

They are all serious

Why would Trump want to get rid of Gaetz? He was fully examined by FBI, they could find nothing which is why he wasn’t charged. It was nothing more than an exercise to muddy his reputation. The House opened an ethics investigation on him in June of 2023m when the FBI found nothing. If they had something, it would have been moved on long ago.

EXACTLY my thoughts on this. It's actually brilliant. Who has ever heard of a President-elect announcing his principal nominees a week after the election? He's taking notes and names from all the reaction, and can also poll on it to gauge public sentiment.

Congress starts up January 3rd.

Trump takes office on January 20th.

There’s lots of work the Senate needs to do.

The Senate would not recess until just before July 4th.

And McConnell has instructed Thune to cage Trump insomuch as possible. There will be no recess door for Gaetz if McConnell or Thune run the Senate.

None of Schumer’s ‘rats are going to vote for Gaetz. And Collins, Murkowski, McConnell, Cornyn and Thune aren’t going to hold open the confirmation door for Gaetz.
