Why would Trump want to get rid of Gaetz? He was fully examined by FBI, they could find nothing which is why he wasn’t charged. It was nothing more than an exercise to muddy his reputation. The House opened an ethics investigation on him in June of 2023m when the FBI found nothing. If they had something, it would have been moved on long ago.

He is young and Sotomayor is old. If she exits then appoint him to her spot and then put in Mark Levin as AG.

It was supposed to be released Friday. But now that’s up in the air due to his resignation. Although they said they will get the report during the confirmation hearing and ask him questions about it.

You miss my point, it’s not that Trump would want to get rid of Gaetz, but that others would. But if they did, they’d have to permanently approve the next AG to do so

Correct. The allegations against Gaetz came from a Republican tax collector in central Florida who was nailed for corruption. In the hope of a better deal from the feds, the attorney for the tax collector started leaking claims that Gaetz was involved in wild sexual antics that amounted to trafficking and sex with one or more underaged teens.

After much delay, the FBI found nothing to it, but Gaetz's enemies in the Kevin McCarthy camp recycled the claims into lurid news stories and a House ethics complaint that remained pending in order to provide a continuing basis to smear Gaetz. By resigning, Gaetz deprives the House Ethics committee of jurisdiction and ends the case so that the files can be released and his name cleared in the Senate confirmation process.

With that in mind, the Gaetz nomination also makes sense as a way to definitively and publicly refute the contention that the Department of Justice and the FBI can or should be politically independent. When publicly exposed, Gaetz's experience will show that both agencies are accustomed to abusing their power for nefarious political purposes and need accountability. As Attorney-General, Gaetz will be that accountability.
