Anyone suffer from gout that is not, shall I say, "chronic" but triggered from either alcohol or specific foods?
If so, do you take a supplement you find works well even when eating those foods?
Cherry supps? Curious to see if there is a consensus here.
Thanks!

Cherry juice.
Any stone fruit.
Turmeric.
I take Allopurinol. Went from 1 terrible flareup a month to one mild one every 6 months. Don’t believe the vegan cultists that it’s red meat.
I had heard Cherries help so I took cherry extract every day for a while. No dice. It didn’t work. I haven’t found anything that has worked. In the last 6 months I’ve severely cut back on all booze especially beer. Its not like I drank a lot before but now I’ve had less than a 6 pack total in the last 9 months. *grumble*.
If that doesn’t work I’ll probably need to go get a prescription for alluprinol.
Cherry supp.? suppository?
Tart cherry juice, I drink a quart every 4 hours
Tart cherries are best.
Cherry powder. Mix and drink regularly.
Prunes, plums,etc.
Cherries help! I like the dried ones. I’ve only had one flare up that my podiatrist said was gout but I have doubts about that, but my old boss had gout fairly bad and swore by the cherries.
None of those things work. If you had luck with it, it was purely a placebo. Sour Cherry juice has been not been shown to lower uric acid levels all that much, if at all. Just spend the 15 bucks a month, get an Rx, and be done with it.
My sis swore by the cherry juice she bought at Natural Grocers
Good Lord that’s a ton. LOL
I hear you. That’s what I’m trying not to do - another Rx. From what I’ve read, I don’t think I have it too bad. I don’t drink much beer at all - but red wine, yes.
That doesn’t seem to bother me but I’ve noticed now that whiskey is a no-go. But food flare ups are pretty obvious to me.
Supplements. :)
club soda, baking soda,, twice a day, taper off once the pain ends.
You can quit after a while.
Drink one every now and then particularly if you feel a twinge.
Uric acid crystals that form in the joints are the cause of the pain of gout. Uric acid crystals are also (for most sufferers of kidney stones) what form in the kidneys are and are then renamed “kidney stones.”
I used to average at least one kidney stone about every 1.5 months. The size of the stones averaged 4mm-6mm. When traveling from the kidney to the bladder, they felt like they were 3 times that size. The pain was excruciating.
The last one I had was a 6mm jagged stone that put me in the hospital. While I was there, a friend advised me to try “Chanca Piedra.” It is an OTC herbal blend that dissolves uric acid crystals. I am now 1 year down the road from my last kidney stone. Not even a tiny one... It has been a Godsend.
I take one capsule a day. Cost runs about $18/200 capsules on Amazon.
I shared my experience with Chanca Piedra with my gout suffering friends. They tried it and it has worked for them as well. As cheap as it is, it’s worth a shot.
I do not have gout. I do have rheumatoid arthritis in my feet and the symptoms are very much like gout. I have found that taking Ivermectin greatly reduces the inflammation and pain. I’m not kidding. It can be a crippling pain where I have to where a medical boot like folks with broken legs. Ivermectin works every time.
Non Rx? I recommend a week on a vegetable and water diet. No meat, shellfish, alcohol, sweets, nor sweetened beverages. Relax and stay off your feet. If you still have trouble, see a doctor.
Interesting, ok I agree this is worth a shot.
To my knowledge I have never had a kidney stone. But I can get pain bad enough in 3 different spots of my foot - sometimes bad enough to cause a limp. A few advil and I’m fine.
But I’d like to be able to enjoy things like shellfish, the occasional whiskey, etc...
