Ex-FDA food expert reveals worst cereal in America with link to cancer

Is this the most-wanted cereal killer?
An ex-FDA employee has revealed what he claims is the most harmful breakfast cereal on the US market.
Dr. Darin Detwiler, who previously served as a food safety expert for the agency, told the Daily Mail that Kellogg’s Froot Loops is the worst of the bunch, pointing out that the rainbow rings are “heavily processed and contain high levels of added sugars, artificial dyes and preservatives, which are linked to health concerns.”
Given the laundry list of bad-for-you ingredients in the bagged cereal, Detwiler says excess sugar is the least odious.
A 1-cup serving of Froot Loops contains 12.35 grams of sugar, nearly half of the recommended daily allowance for children. However, as Detwiler explains, that serving size is unrealistic as most kids eat more than the recommended single cup.

Never ate cold cereal growing up, and, neither did our kids.

And *natural* colors aren’t necessarily any better.
My daughter was allergic to a *natural* red, carmine, which is made from insect shells.
Fortunately we were able to track it down because she only reacted a few times with itching and hives and we knew what she had eaten that day.
Carmine is listed either as carmine, or as *natural color* without being specific. We found out it’s in some varieties of yogurt.

We did. Cocoa Puffs.
Sometimes cheerios, shredded wheat, Lucky Charms. I never cared for Fruit Loops. It tasted weird to me.
Looking back at how we ate, which was pretty typical, it’s no wonder I have issues with food. And I’m surprised I don’t have more health issues.

It was pretty much corn flakes, cheerios and rice krispies in the 50s.
Today I like Frosted Mini Wheats and cheerios honey nuts.
I'm 80.

Unfortunately I grew up on cold cereal. Count Chocula, FrankenBerry, Lucky Charms, Frosted Flakes, Quisp, Fruit Loops, you name it. The only "hot" breakfast we ever got was maybe toasted Pop Tarts or microwaved frozen waffles with syrup poured all over them.
I remedied that in adulthood. Nothing but farm raised eggs, bacon, whole fat yogurt, berries, and sometimes raw honeycomb.

Me too. And I never cared for the marshmallow thingies in Lucky Charms for the same reason. Plus I didn’t like the way they “squeaked” on my teeth when chewing them.
On the other hand, I liked Sugar Smacks and Sugar Pops and I’m sure neither of those were good for me either.

I’m 60 and this morning they brought me a bowl of Frosted Flakes, and I refused them,
and requested Raisin Bran instead.
They expect a diabetic to eat Sugar Frosted Flakes?
Let’s get real here….

Unfortunately I grew up on cold cereal.
At least you didn't get fluff. Fluff on toast for breakfast, peanut butter and fluff sandwich for lunch.

Mr. mm and I both started eating far better after we got married.
Now I grow much of what we eat, as least when the weather allows it.
I’m learning to pressure can some of it, and we need to make a root cellar in one corner of our basement.
