Never ate cold cereal growing up, and, neither did our kids.
And *natural* colors aren’t necessarily any better.
My daughter was allergic to a *natural* red, carmine, which is made from insect shells.
Fortunately we were able to track it down because she only reacted a few times with itching and hives and we knew what she had eaten that day.
Carmine is listed either as carmine, or as *natural color* without being specific. We found out it’s in some varieties of yogurt.
Today I like Frosted Mini Wheats and cheerios honey nuts.
I'm 80.
I love my Raisin Bran Crunch ...
The family went through 100 lbs of organic oats at its prime. Hot cereal and homemade granola. Along with weekend waffles and rice cereal.
And a wonderful organic cheerio like cereal called oatios which I used to buy bulk from the coop in 20 lb bags
The California Fruit Loops are even worse.
Most cereals are disguised candy. As are most granola bars. For example, one serving of Nature Valley granola (two bars) contains 12 grams of sugar.
I wonder if an all-natural, no-sugar granola would sell. Just fruits and nuts, nothing more.
Green Jello and their song Cereal Killer were right about Toucan Sam?
No guts, no glory. Ban Froot Loops? Why not try to bring back Prohibition? Those big bag bargain brand clones of FL are pretty close, btw.
I miss Product 19 (hey I was a boring kid), Team Flakes, Special K (the small flake kind, it's different now), Kaboom (test market product possibly, turned the milk a weird color and flavor, small box, odd little clown character on the front), Trader Joe's High Fiber (that just vanished in the past year; massive bargain, very tasty, colon blow par excellence), Kamut (flakes, a health food store favorite), and President's Choice brand Ancient Grains (used to pick that up in NY state at either Wegman's or Tops; looks like it's still made in Canada, maybe always from there?).
I eat a small bowl of Aldi’s Chocolate Puffs 3-4 times a week. It’s lower sugar than many, and actually has a little fiber. I used to eat a lot of shredded wheat for the fiber, but can hardly down it without adding plenty... sugar. Or fruit that has sugar in it. Ditto for the plain Aldi version of Cheerios. Fruit Loops, I just don’t much like.
In winter, I’ll fill in with hot oatmeal with apple bits or “Malto-Meal” or Cream of Wheat or grits, but all get, um, er, um... brown sugar... But, less than I used to use.
I also used to eat a whole large banana every breakfast, but cut that to 1/2 of one, again, to reduce the sugar intake a bit.
And we should believe the FDA why? That’s like believing the FBI, CDC, IRS, DNC, RNC, etc.
When I saw “Fruit Loops,” I thought they were talking about Democrat women.
We had most cereals growing up (50s-60s)...as long as not frosted. I told my young son who wanted cocoa puffs, or something frosted... they were “snack food”...and maybe bought them once.
If one is alive, one is linked to cancer.
I ate a lot of fruit loops when I was a kid. But I have not had a bowl of cereal in years.
