Ex-FDA food expert reveals worst cereal in America with link to cancer

Is this the most-wanted cereal killer?

An ex-FDA employee has revealed what he claims is the most harmful breakfast cereal on the US market.

Dr. Darin Detwiler, who previously served as a food safety expert for the agency, told the Daily Mail that Kellogg’s Froot Loops is the worst of the bunch, pointing out that the rainbow rings are “heavily processed and contain high levels of added sugars, artificial dyes and preservatives, which are linked to health concerns.”

Given the laundry list of bad-for-you ingredients in the bagged cereal, Detwiler says excess sugar is the least odious.

A 1-cup serving of Froot Loops contains 12.35 grams of sugar, nearly half of the recommended daily allowance for children. However, as Detwiler explains, that serving size is unrealistic as most kids eat more than the recommended single cup.

This stuff.

Ingredients: Corn syrup, sugar, dried egg white, vanillin

Essentially meringue in a shelf stable form.

Raisin Bran = 7g total Sugars, 9g Added Sugars 18% of Daily Value
Frosted Flakes = 22g Total Sugar, 12g Added Sugar 24% of Daily Value

That’s what the boxes say.

Marshmallow Fluff? It's a sticky "edible" paste made of marshmallows.

Want to spike your blood sugar? Have a Nutella and Marshmallow Fluff sandwich.

Marshmallow Fluff was a staple in our house growing up, Honey Grahams with Fluff is to die for. Also good on Ice Cream and of course a Peanut Butter and Fluff Sammie. I still pick up the small tub now and again just for a rare treat. It is not good for you at all, but neither are most things people like.

My Grandma made us Cream of Wheat with milk on the stovetop. We put butter and salt in it and just ate it that way, like a thick porridge. I guess some people put milk over it like cereal, I never did. I’ve never been able to make it taste like Grandma’s.

I love Grits as well but there is absolutely no nutritional value in them at all except carbs filling you up.

Don’t use white bread, Use a good 10 or 12 Whole Grain Bread and that sugar spike will flatten out a bit. Or pop a cinnamon capsule supplement afterwards.

I think I had it as a kid but not since.

It looks kind of like "not food" to me. Not because I am afraid of "spiking my blood sugar", as far as I can tell we are not meant to be a steady state being but in regular flux, but it just looks like it would taste unpleasant.

Of course I do not like a untoasted meringue either.

If one is alive, one is linked to cancer.

Well it’s a spreadable marshmallow, not a meringue, but you can spread it on a honey Graham cracker, top with a square of Hershey chocolate bar and then toast it with one of those small kitchen blow torches/lighters and you’ll like it, guaranteed. One is probably enough but two is best.

I ate a lot of fruit loops when I was a kid. But I have not had a bowl of cereal in years.

You might like Panda Puffs. Organic, no GMO’s, no wheat or sugar. And the only cereal that I like, nice flavor. You might give them a try. Not available everywhere, but Fred Meyer/Kroger carries them in my town and you can also find some at Trader Joe and of course Amazon. I pour unsweetened almond milk on them and sometimes grind up walnuts and sprinkle them on top.

Going to bed now, but if you’re interested I’ll list ingredients for you tomorrow.

I’d abandon my daily oatmeal if I could find the “Cinnamon-Cheerios” I’d bought last year in central Florida.

Unavailable in New Hampshire, it’s disappeared from wherever I shop.
