Farm animals born with abnormalities often have a bleak future. This chicken’s unique traits ensured its survival.
In 1995, a chicken was born with four legs near Fort Calhoun, Nebraska. It was aptly named 4Runner.
4Runner was owned by two brothers who ran a chicken processing operation. His extra legs bought him some extra time. “He was spared the ax,” his owner said.
The persistent bird didn’t waste that time. True to his name, he often dashed around his home in an endearing shuffle, becoming a local curiosity and a family favorite.

Impressive, but not as impressive as that talking dog I read about .. ..

I worked in a chicken hatchery back in 1964-1966.
We saw all sorts of abnormalities, cross beaks and featherless being the most common. I actually raised a six legged chicken from a hatchling till it died a couple of years later. Two legs were normal, the other four were small ones growing out of the back of the pelvis much like this one shown but smaller.

Ok found it. Now this is one amazing critter. I might have heard about this from sodpoodle. Have not seen sodpoodle post for about a year now. Here you go:
A guy is driving around Texas and he sees a sign in front of a house: “Talking Dog For Sale.” He rings the bell and the owner tells him the dog is in the backyard.
The guy goes into the backyard and sees a Labrador retriever sitting there. “You talk?” he asks.
“Yep,” the Lab replies.
“So, what’s your story?”
The Lab looks up and says, “Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young.”
“I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA about my gift, and in no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping. I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running.”
“But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn’t getting any younger so I decided to settle down. I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security wandering near suspicious characters and listening in.”
“I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals. I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I’m just retired.”
The guy is amazed. He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog.
“Ten dollars,” the guy says.
“Ten dollars? This dog is amazing. Why on Earth are you selling him so cheap?”
“Because he’s a liar. He never did any of that stuff.”

That chicken is still alive? From 1995?
My weirdest chicken experience? I bought a dozen White Leghorns (for a song!) from a guy that was closing his chicken sheds. I met him half way and the chickens were in a dog carrier that he let me keep.
When I released the hens into the pasture yard, then stayed right up close to one another and circled around like they were a school of fish! They had NEVER been able to be free, before! It was heartbreaking in a way, but once they figured out that they were no longer in a cage since birth with all of their closest friends, they ended up being my Happiest Chickens Ever. EVER. :)
My own free-range heart will always raise free-range chickens. :)

To: Red Badger
Turkeys are native to North and South America except for the polar regions.
The domestic turkey we know came from breeds which had been domesticated by indigenous people in the Southwest and Mexico and which were sent to Europe from Spanish-occupied territories back in the 1500s.
After being adopted by farmers in Europe and Asia especially Turkey, some ended up going back to the Americas on board the ships that brought settlers. So now they are a mixture of Indian-domesticated birds from south of the border crossed with native eastern north American turkeys that were already here.
