India's space agency has successfully launched a rocket that is carrying an observatory which will study astronomical objects like black holes.
It was launched from Sriharikota spaceport at 09:10 local time (03:40GMT) on Monday. This is only the second mission in the world of this nature after Nasa launched one in 2021.
The space agency said it wanted to help scientists improve their "knowledge of black holes". "We will have an exciting time ahead," Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) chairperson S Somanath said after the launch.

For the record, and for people beyond the sixth grade, the planet is pronounced “Urine-us”, not “Your-anus”.

India not only gives free food to the poor but also has enough to export as well as keep 8 months buffer stocks.
Stop looking at the old pictures and reading articles in the leftist media. India is still poor but the benefits of being the worlds 5th largest economy are percolating to the poor. And India will probably become the 3rd largest economy in 5 years as Japan and Germany stagnate.
So, this would be the “Black Hole of Calcutta?”

I can’t resist a straight line like “India ... to Study Black Holes,.”
Why do I doubt that the mighty U.S. government has buffer stocks of food anywhere near that much? On the bright side, I do have confidence that our politicians will never miss a meal.
Indias buffer stock is required because our agriculture is still extremely dependent on a good monsoon. El Ninos play havoc with the rains and we are one bad monsoon away from disaster.
