This is the terrifying moment a Norwegian cruise ship with British tourists on board was struck by a 'rogue wave', sending passengers sliding around the floor and knocking out its power during a ferocious North Sea storm.

MS Maud was sailing some 162 miles off Denmark's west coast and about 217 miles off Britain's east coast when the monster wave shattered its windows on the bridge. VIDEO AT LINK

By "snuffing the nose" you mean that the bow of the ship dove into the waves?

And what is the foxtail? The main bridge area or the helicopter pad at the end?

They only reduced the speed to get through the early part of the evening for the show and they did not do the late performance. After the show, they strongly invited everyone to call it a night by closing up everything and asking people to retire. And the midnight chow was cancelled. They had to make their first port on time, so they increased speed to make up for the lost time thus going even faster than normal into a rough sea area they knew about even before they left Seattle. And you call that responsibility when the only actions they took was to try to fool people into thinking it was never going to be a problem they already knew was going to happen? That’s called irresponsibility. In court jargon, it’s called malfeasance.

I guess you didn’t read the site I gave you as one of the cases collected on was when a woman fell over a raise bulkhead exit and collected. I wasn’t injured but with one bruise on my head over my eye when I hit the head of the bed. And that falls under pain and suffering which refers to the physical discomfort and emotional distress that are compensable as noneconomic damages. It refers to the pain, discomfort, anguish, inconvenience, and emotional trauma that accompanies an injury. Tack that on to malfeasance and it could have been worth a good chunk of change. But I don’t live my life from simple cuts and bruises like many. And yes, I had a winable case if compared to the ones I displayed for you.

I have no idea who you are and who you are representing. But defending anyone that did the things they did on my trip concerning the legal presidence already sets and used since indicates to me that you are setting a standard you believe and are expecting me to cut it to shreds a piece at a time starting with you can’t moving on to okay try it. Wastes my time. I’m not going to go from A to Z. So long.

Too much reliance on ship stabilizers to stop all acts of God.

Technology addresses some problems but not all and creates as many problems as they solve. Just like government.

If they had offered the passengers the opportunity to cancel with a refund I’m sure many would have stayed if only becasue they had flight money into it they wouldn’t be able to recoup. But those that didn’t wish to continue weren’t being treated fairly and professionally ending with the injuries, some serious, from the decision of the cruise line to overlook or ignore the damages that incurred by bearing the responsibility of the decision of safety taking it away from the passengers. I live just south of the port. I didn’t have anything but gas money in it. I would have cancelled if I knew there was a danger. I can take it again at almost no loss. I could have been injured a whole lot more, and it would have been because the cruise lines failed to be up front with me. They knowingly put me in danger.

We took that cruise a couple of years ago and we had calm seas so we didn’t have to walk (stagger) on the bulkhead.

Our cruise wasn’t bad but the Ruby, which we took, was aging and it was scheduled for dry dock and refurbish. And it was too small to be out in open ocean especially with waves you are describing. Sorry it was so rough. I don’t fault the ship for plugging ahead. But I do fault them for not offering the opportunity not to be put in that situation without warnings and lack of services cut because of the rough seas they had to know were out there just to get there. The missed their two financial responsibilities. They are supposed to entertain and not cancel events thus cutting the entertaining factor paid for. They threatened the safety of the pasengers as they can be like a ping pong ball in their state rooms also. I can attest to that.

Not my intent to defend anyone or anything. My intent was to point out that you would have a most difficult case. You should understand that maritime law prevails here which is vastly different.

We were on Island Princess, my favorite ship.

I’m sure that cruise was an anomaly for that part of the Pacific. We’ve cruised often since then.

The worst part was the crew’s refusal to provide ANY information. That was unnecessary.

Ocean storms are very visual on radar and reports from ships at sea via radio. The cruise lines are aware of the storms and many times can go around them far enough so as not to distract from their schedule. But if they know it is going to be rough, they should have offered the passengers an out at the dock and in both our cases, didn’t.

I mentioned in another part of this thread that there would be many who would have cancelled if they found out it was going to be rough, like myself, living about a half hour from the dock. Those that had airfare committed might not and are willing to put up with the situation. Some like myself would have cancelled and/or rescheduled if they had told us. And not telling the truth is no different than lying and in the business world, that is called fraud since they were responsible for the safety of the passengers by international maritime law.

I hurt enough already. I don’t need any more pain. Especially unplanned and could have been alleviated.

Going on a cruise in a few months with 7000 of “my closest friends” :)

No way in the world I show that video to the wife!!

As for storms, that bad nor’easter that rolled up the coast a week or so ago wreaked havoc in the Florida cruise ports.

Captain of the Wonder of the Seas brought that ship back a day earlier so they wouldn’t get hit.

Many ships that could not do that were delayed back to port as much as 18 hours.

People that were on the Wonder were talking about how rough the ride back to port was and seemingly the captain wasn’t using the stabilers.

Not sure how they could know but I understand the stabilizers can only be used at slower speeds and really only help with side-to-side motion?

Personally, as a passenger, I would have preferred the move the captain made rather than ride out the worse seas in the storm.

I imagine those on the Wonder that didn’t miss their flight the next day were pretty happy with that decision as well!

Rogue waves were believed to be just mariners’ wild imaginations and story telling until modern times and cameras showed them to be real occurrences................

My brother served on a Destroyer during his Navy career. Once in the North Atlantic it went through some rough seas. He videotaped the waves crashing onto the forward deck. We all got seasick watching it, LOL.
