Tsunami warning: The tsunami Warning remains in effect for the coastal areas of Alaska from Kennedy Entrance, Alaska (40 miles SW of Homer) to Unimak Pass, Alaska (80 miles NE of Unalaska). If you are located in this coastal area, move inland to higher ground. Tsunami Warnings mean that a tsunami with significant inundation is possible or is already occurring. Tsunamis are a series of waves dangerous many hours after initial arrival time. The first wave may not be the largest. At 1048 PM Alaska Daylight Time on July 15 an earthquake with preliminary magnitude 7.4 occurred 55 miles southwest of Sand Point, Alaska. Estimated tsunami start times for selected sites are... Sand Point Alaska 1210 AM. AKDT. July 16. Kodiak Alaska 1235 AM. AKDT. July 16. Cold Bay Alaska 135 AM. AKDT. July 16. The Tsunami Warning will remain in effect until further notice. Refer to the internet site tsunami.gov for more information.
I was just going to post this. There was a 5.7 aftershock just a minute ago.
Current time is 11:25 p.m. in Alaska. Which is 00:25 a.m. Pacific. So, if there is a tsunami, it will be hitting shore over the next 45+ minutes.
Interesting there is no estimate on tsunami size, inches or feet.
🌊A TSUNAMI WARNING has been issued for coastal Alaska, from Kennedy Entrance to Unimak Pass
❗ Significant inundation is possible or already occurring. Move inland to higher ground.
Estimated tsunami start times:
Sand Point 12:10 AM
Kodiak 12:35 AM
Cold Bay 1:35 AM
7.4 is a strong earthquake, but usually not enough to make much of a tsunami unless it triggers a big slideslide into the ocean
What’s happening on the outer islands like Adak and Attu?
Looks like all is east. And they have reduced the warning but still have it active. In 15 minutes it arrives at Sand Point, which may give some real-readings for update. There are various tide and DART sensors so maybe they have more info soon.
July 16 (Reuters) - An earthquake of magnitude 7.2 struck the Alaska Peninsula region early on Sunday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said, and a tsunami warning for nearby regions was issued but later withdrawn.
The U.S. Tsunami Warning System withdrew a warning it had issued for coastal areas of South Alaska and the Alaska Peninsula.
USGS revised the magnitude of the earthquake down from an initial reading of 7.4, and it revised the depth of the quake to 32.6 km (20.3 miles) from an initial 9.3 km.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties although a few Twitter accounts posted videos of tsunami sirens and strong tremors being felt.
Okaaaay...
Lots of shaking

From my brief time in Shemya I remember the site SOP had a procedure for tsunamis. Basically, get to high ground. Since almost the entire Island is 200-300 feet above sea level, not very difficult, just get away from the docks near the shore.

Did you feel it? Are you safe where you are?
Oh, great... And I’m about to leave for Alaska in a few days for a family vacation...
