‘Lowes third-party delivery is killing their business single-handedly’: Customer catches Lowe’s delivery driver trying to avoid making appliance delivery
Daily Dot ^ | March 13, 2023 | Braden Bjella

We’ve all had the experience of waiting at home for a delivery to arrive, only to discover a note on your door later in the day claiming that a delivery was attempted and failed.

If this has happened to you, you might be wondering how you could have missed your delivery if you were home all day. Now, TikTok user Michelle (@michellegwynn85) has gone viral after sharing her potential explanation.

In a video with over 3.6 million views, Michelle claims that she was waiting at home for a new washing machine to be delivered from Lowe’s. Rather than ring the doorbell and wait for her to answer, Michelle claims (with evidence from her video-enabled doorbell) that the driver simply honked his horn, ran to leave a note on the door, then drove away.

“Not a ring or a knock though I stayed home all day for a delivery,” she wrote in the caption. “The only thing offered was a 10% off a future purchase though we have no plans for future large purchases. We were also not able to get back on the delivery schedule for days and days.”

According to commenters, this is a common problem with Lowe’s delivery.

“I watched lowes pull up, walked out to greet them, and they booked it. claimed I wasn’t home,” alleged a user. “They didn’t even get out of the truck.”

“Same happened to me. I sent video and asked for compensation They gave me $350,” shared another.

“They delivered my in-laws new fridge and literally left it in the yard in the rain. Refused to help them get it inside,” claimed a third.

Same here. No problems with deliveries or installation of several appliances. We also had some flooring replaced over a concrete slab, and the Lowe’s installation foreman let me know that the slab wasn’t quite flat, so the flooring couldn’t be installed properly. They left and came back after I had the slab ground flat, and finished the job with no charge for the extra trip.

“...Nothing anywhere works anymore. That is all I can say...”
-
Yes, I agree.
Lately, whenever things somewhere just don’t go right,
I will ask the person involved:
“Do you ever get the feeling that
everything in the world is broken?”
Many times they will nod their head and agree with me.

So, not only is everything broken,
but also, no one knows how to fix anything.

i worked for awhile delivering appliances...for years, we were paid by the hour....then some one came up with the idea of something called getting paid “by the piece”.....took away all incentive of taking your time and doing the job right. Now, if guys came across a really “tough shot”...where it required removing doors etc...they would simply just “boot it” or damage it....and just say it happened at the warehouse. Really tough shots got returned over and over....

My few experiences with Loews (Indian Trail, NC) deliveries have all gone off without a hitch.

I’m sure it’s different in different locations.

FedEx was great at my workplace, before I retired.

It’s just not that good in my residence area.

Haven’t come in boxes in well over a decade
Maybe 2 now.

You can get a good experience even from a bad company.

As a whole the delivery subcontractors stink

They have to hire pure labor and sadly most don’t pay well so you get ex cons and low work ethic folks as a higher than most people know as their work force

A few months ago, the wife and I stopped by Lowe’s on a Saturday afternoon to look at stoves. We found the one we wanted and amazingly within seconds a very nice young male employee asked if we needed any help and we told him we were interested in this particular model, and wanted to know if they still had any in stock.

It took him all of about 30 seconds to check and to verify that not only did they have the model but we could get a discount and that they could deliver tomorrow (Sunday) morning. Damned if the delivery guys didn’t show up on time… If not a little early!! They were in and out in no time. I tipped them some cash to haul the old stove out of the house. We could not have been happier.

I think the problems are Geographic. Meaning, your service is as good as the workforce in the community you live in. Our Lowe’s is great (small Texas town). Chicago, Los Angeles??? Probably not so good.

You are correct. I live in conservative Central Texas. Lowes, Home Depot, FedEx, UPS, and Amazon are good. I cannot say that for the United States Postal Service. They lost a 6000 dollar check. It was never cashed but just gone. 30 days later after a lot I paper work I got a new check. I requested it be sent to me by FedEx. The company sent it and I had it in my hand the next day.

Evidentally these are delivery drivers who belong to the "I DON'T want a GOOD JOB.. just some MONEY" workers union.

USPS is excellent here; though that may be due more to our delivery lady and location, than the service itself. I know a lot of people have trouble with it.

We have had good experiences with Lowes delivering and installing on any appliances we have ordered. Only problem is our son has the same name as my husband, Jr & Sr. And our son lives about 7 miles from us. And both of us are in the Lowe’s system. Even though there are different addresses and phone numbers. A few times Lowes has called my son to let him know that whatever will be delivered tomorrow. And vice/versa. Even though it was us [or him] who ordered. So now, when either of us order something to be delivered from Lowes, we message each other once the order is placed so we both will be aware in case Lowe’s calls the wrong house. lol

Wife ordered a stove from Lowe’s. The salesman told her she would have to contact the third party delivery company and schedule the deliver and hook up. She was informed that Lowe’s management had decided to change from in-house delivery workers to a third party so she was basically on her own. She cancelled the order and left. She will never buy an appliance from Lowe’s.

Home Depot is the same with 3rd party delivery and installation. HD uses Delta Mechanical - DO NOT USE DELTA MECHANICAL. I needed a new water heater. The very nice HD employee put my info in the computer and Delta called me while I was there. Delta kid was a moron - told me I need a “city” permit that I do not need, told me I was not “allowed” to put that model in my house per HUD (it’s the exact same water heater as the old one.) Then he wanted almost $2500 for a 30-gallon tank in a mobile home! I said NO!, bought the one I wanted and copper flex pipes $600, had HD load it in my van. I called a local plumber and paid them $600 which included the dump fee on the removal of the old one, so total cost $1200. Delta Mechanical tried to DOUBLE the cost. I don’t know why Home Depot doesn’t dump them.

UPS has been the best among private carries; FedeX with its old trucks (one was missing on a cylinder for over a year) not as good, while the postmen for the USPS have been very good, but you will have a very hard time trying to contact and rectify issues if needed. Almost all drivers will not ring a doorbell even with a sign clearly asking them to do so.But thank God we even can buy goods and have them delivered!

Took 3 tried for a refrig to be successfully acquired two years ago from Lowes. And delivery is $79 for items (like 7 bags of Black Kow 1 cu. ft. Manure) that are that Home Depot would deliver for 35.

I bought a washer at Lowes with an extended warranty some years back. The thing quit working almost three years later.

It took their repair people almost 6 weeks to figure out they couldn’t fix the washer (ordering a part that would ‘do the job’ then having to order a different part - then when that didn’t work... etc etc.)

I would never get a warranty with them again. So it’s not just delivery problems...

Thats why its very important to know which ones are more reliable where you are. Imagine if you were a reseller and you don’t want your chosen delivery carrier damaging all your packages you are sending out. Try getting any of them to pay for shipping damamges even when you buy insurance...

once you have the flex kit installed, future hot water heater swaps are a piece of cake, assuming access is easy ...

Buying a dishwasher from Home Depot

12/30: Ordered a dishwasher, install kit, power cord, and installation service online from Home Depot. Delivery was scheduled for 1/5.

1/4: Delivery delayed to 1/11.

1/11: Dishwasher was delivered, but without the install kit or power cord. Delivery guy had no record that installation was included. Called HD Appliance Hotline (800-430-3376). The rep said the kit and cord would be delivered on 1/13 and a plumber would call the same day to set up the installation. Cancelled the option to have the old unit hauled away and received a $40 refund.

1/13: A dispatcher called to say that the delivery truck couldn’t find the house. Verified the address. Dispatcher called again to say they would arrive soon. Truck never showed up. No calls from plumbers.

1/17: Called the Appliance Hotline again. The rep put me on hold to check on the delivery status. Gave up after waiting for 30 minutes. Called back and asked for a supervisor. Was transferred three times and wound up talking to someone at the store who doesn’t deal with online orders. Hung up and called the THD Contact Center (877-961-6683). The rep said the delivery had been rescheduled for 1/20 because the kit and cord were never put on the truck. He also said a plumber should call in the next day or two.

1/18: HD Plumber called and tried to schedule the installation for 1/19. I explained that the install kit and power cord hadn’t arrived yet. After some debate, plumber agreed to come on 1/23.

1/20: Install kit and power cord were delivered without incident.

1/23: HD plumber failed to show up or call. Called HD Appliance Hotline to cancel the installation service and ask for a refund. On hold for 12 minutes while the rep checked with a supervisor. She said HD would refund the full amount of $172.26. I started to point out that I had paid $174 plus tax for the service but decided it wasn’t worth pursuing. Called a local plumber to schedule the installation.

2/1: Plumber installed the dishwasher, after picking up a bracket that was missing from the install kit.

2/4: The promised $172.26 installation refund still hadn’t arrived. Called the HD Appliance Hotline again and was told I would have to go to a store 90 minutes away because they had already processed one refund for this purchase. I said this was unreasonable for an online purchase, and that my next step would be to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. The rep called the store, which agreed to waive this new requirement, and said the refund would appear on my card in 3 to 5 business days.

2/6: The $172.26 refund cleared. Total elapsed time: 5 weeks, 3 days. Total number of phone calls: 10.
