Scientists say that images from the James Webb Space Telescope may change how they understand the origins of the universe after they discovered "the impossible."
The findings were published in the journal "Nature" on Wednesday.
Astronomers expected to find "tiny, young, baby galaxies" from the cosmic history documented in the images, but they found something else entirely.
The study's lead author, Ivo Labbé, explained how shocked he was when he realized what the images meant.
"Little did I know that among the pictures is a small red dot that will shake up our understanding of how the first galaxies formed after the Big Bang," Labbé said.
"I run the analysis software on the little pinprick and it spits out two numbers: distance 13.1 billion light years, mass 100 billion stars, and I nearly spit out my coffee," he continued. "We just discovered the impossible. Impossibly early, impossibly massive galaxies."
In addition to the "pinprick" galaxy, the next day they discovered five other possible galaxies exhibiting the same unexpected qualities.

K-Mart blue light special.
Spiritual Blindness described.
Just ask them to get a poster of Racquel Welch and they will see it.
Unexpected.
Impossible.
Unexplained.
Back to the drawing board!!!
Or back to the guessing game!!!
God did not make it simple, and making up things will not explain what really happened ‘in the beginning’.
blaze is nothing but click bait... and then once there, there is no telling how many times ya gotta click “Next” to finish reading... fk that place...
I’m in the greater NYC light bubble, so usually only see a handful of stars. When I was a boy scout 45 years ago, I used to go to camp in the very dark (back then) NW NJ highlands and the Milky Way was a gorgeous streak across the sky. It’s not that way any more.
SW Montana here. Some of the best stargazing you can imagine.
“Exactly! They’re so wrapped around the axle for a Naturalistic explanation, there’s noting that will change their minds.”
EXACTLY!
Before any “science” can be applied, GOD, MUST BE REMOVED FROM ALL CONSIDERATION as an explanation.
Even though, there is NO OTHER EXPLANATION!
One day and they will all KNOW.
Maybe they wouldn’t be so shocked if they weren’t so sure they already knew everything
“Scientists are constantly shocked by new discoveries that upset the old thinking.”
Pretty damn funny from where I’m standing. The longer I live, the more I am told that all those established scientific “facts and laws” that my ever so intelligent college professors insisted were incontrovertible and unquestionable are actually false and complete BS.
Now I’m wondering if my STEM degree is still valid since so much of my thesis was based on false information.
That red dot on the telescope . . . did they consider wiping the lens? To see if it’s a spot of ketchup. They should get Hillary, she’s good at wiping things clean . . with a cloth.
i think they’ve got the ‘big bang’ all wrong.
they’re coming from the assumption that EVERYTHING was created from a single bang. while that might have been the case the FIRST TIME there was a ‘big bang’... who says there can only be one?
the universe is impossibly huge. the circumstances to create a ‘big bang’ could be a number of black holes coming together and boom... stuff goes flying out from the center. this would lead to the possibility of more than one ‘bang’ could occur over the massively long lifetime of the universe.
and when another ‘bang’ occurs, the stars and systems nearest the epicenter might be destroyed and ‘reshuffled’... but further away from the epicenter, the shockwave may or may not move the existing stars as it washes over them.
Screwed by a pinprick?
When scientists explain how they have figured everything out, God laughs loudly.
It’s not real dark here (Northern Illinois), but dark enough to see some brighter deep sky objects. I’m sure it’s better than where you are, however.
Going to a Messier Marathon next month at Yerkes Observatory, about an hour East of here.😀🔭
“Baby Galaxies”. Fascinating!
There is so much we still don’t know about the atmosphere and outer space around us. There are phenomena we don’t have words for just yet.
We can’t even explain the concept of time to everyone’s satisfaction.
100 billion galaxies from a tiny, red dot. The cats know something.
That's because in their hubris they think they are the final answer to everything.
