GLENDALE, AZ — One of the iconic moments before kickoff on Super Bowl Sunday is the fighter jet flyover at the end of the National Anthem. And this year's flyover will be historic in its own right.
This year, the U.S. Navy gets the honor, featuring F-18, F-35 and Growler planes stationed at Luke Air Force Base, about seven miles west of State Farm Stadium.
According to Navy officials, this is the first time in US history that those performing the flyover for the big game will be a team of all women. It’s to honor 50 years of women flying in the Navy.

I do nothave a problem with women doing this. What I do not like is making a big deal out of it as though we are all supposed to be impressed that a woman can fly a plane.
I am a female and this is done for all the wrong reasons in the wrong venue.

That being said, in terms of combat there are tremendous physical pressures that are put on fighter pilots in extreme conditions and women are simply not physically as strong as men to handle those conditions. But could a woman fly a bomber? Sure, why not.

20 year retired veteran here and I think this is pretty cool. I worked with, for and lead several females while in the service. Some were up to the task, and some were not. Same as the dudes.
It’s all designed to divide people IMO.

Yep. For the record the Boeing EA-18G Growler platform is a carrier-based electronic warfare aircraft that took over electronic radar jamming and related duties from the EA6B Prowler.
Basically they took F/A 18s and crammed the electronic gear in.
Also of note is the Growler has had much of its armament removed and replaced with electronic gear.
I spent many years working as a civilian turbine engine accessories mechanic attached to the US Navy building and calibrating the main fuel control for the J-52 engine in the EA6B.
I’ll say this about the EA6B and J-52 engine.....the Navy got their money’s worth outta that gear.
By the time it went into sunset that airframe and engine were wore slap out.
