A small dog was found in a traveler’s backpack when going through an X-ray machine at the Dane County Airport on Tuesday.
The traveler, unaware of the screening protocol, had not disclosed to the Transportation and Security agents at the Wisconsin airport that she was traveling with her small dog, reported WISN 12 News. After the pet was discovered, an officer informed the passenger of appropriate travel procedures, and she proceeded to her gate, according to the news outlet.
The woman, whose identity was not disclosed, reportedly informed the airline she would be traveling with a pet.

A similar incident occurred in November, when a cat was discovered in a checked bag at John F. Kennedy International Airport. The passenger in this incident, however, claimed he had no idea the animal was in his bag and was forced to rebook his flight for the following day.
Jessica Mayle, spokesperson for the TSA, shared that the Dachshund Chihuahua mix appeared a little skittish but was okay once it was removed from the bag, USA Today reported.
Following the incident, TSA Great Lakes tweeted that the dog was accidentally sent through screening, along with two images: the black backpack it was sealed in, and the x-ray image of the dog inside the bag. The agency followed up with a video demonstrating how to properly travel with a pet.
A passenger is seen carrying their cat in a designated animal carrier. The traveler removes the cat from the bag and it proceeds through the x-ray machine, while the cat is carried by its owner through the metal detectors. The pet is then placed back in the carrier once the screening process is completed.
Mayle explained to USA Today the agency chose to share this story as a way to remind airline travelers the proper way to transport their pets.

Who wouldn’t be a little skittish being stuffed into a carry-on bag.
Found my keys!
I have seen numerous airline passengers traveling with little ankle-biter yappy “dogs”. It’s sorta normal, perfectly legal, and they make luggage expressly for the purpose of carry the little blighters.
Some idiot didn’t do her appropriate research before flying.
I assume it was to avoid a fee. But that’s just a guess.
:-)
That’s a Chi-weenie! On my short-list of cool small breed dogs.
She’d declared it. I think the only problem was she didn’t know it was gonna be zapped.

Strange. She told the wrong people, I guess.

I had to look it up. Many of these cross-mix breeds actually result in healthier dogs as you combine the strengths of two genetic mixes. I like the “Mexican hotdog” moniker.
“A Chiweenie — also known as a choxie — is a cross between a Chihuahua and a dachshund. This designer breed is spirited and loyal, packing a big attitude in a small body. Also, affectionately known as weeniehuahuas, Mexican hot dogs and German tacos, Chiweenie puppies and adults both make great watchdogs”
Yeah. Expecting coordination between two bureaucratic bodies is foolhardy. Especially if one is government.
The one that I’ve dealt with was a deer-legged Chihuahua x Doxie. Not a trace of leg stumpiness. Very graceful lines.
I can believe it.
George T Cat was notorious for trying to hide in my luggage and almost got away with it a couple of times.
As my company would NOT have been pleased if I missed my flight I learned to check my carryon bag most carefully.
Almost happened to me. When I picked up my handcarry on my way to the airport, I noticed it was suprisinly heavy. Yep, inside I found Joe, the tabby cat.
Mitt?
