I’m eating leftover chicken that I spatchcocked, seasoned and then smoked. Cooking whole chickens is great for stretching a budget. Doubled my garden this year, and my dehydrator has been going non-stop for weeks. Lots of good advice on this thread.

Potassium Chloride can be had at Swanson Vitamins for a very good price.

Being self employed who bills hourly it is actually cheaper for me to eat take out. A $10 hoagie can last me a full day if I mix up the day with some snacks like fruit and nuts. Pretty soon I’ll just have to eat my goats. The goat food is up over 3x since chomo Brandon was installed

If you eat out at somewhere other than a fast food joint, order one meal as a take out and split it. That way there’s no plate charge and no tip. And there’s usually plenty of food for two in a single meal these days.

And if you’re on the road, pack your own food and drink.

Buy a vacuum packer and buy meat in bulk...
Example: center cut pork chops, 7 bucks a pound.
Whole pork loin, 3 bucks a pound.
You get about 20, 1.25 inch pork chops, plus 2 pork roasts, for about 20 bucks.
Cut it yourself and vacuum pack it. Will stay good in the freezer for up to a year.
Same with bulk chicken breast, burger, etc.
Look for meat on sale and take advantage.

When we travel, that’s what we prefer to do. It’s way cheaper to pack a lunch than stop somewhere and buy it.

Can you share what’s your source of “bulk beef and pork”?
...thanks in advance.

I LOVE this idea. I kept my carbs to a minimum but my husband may enjoy this.

“So my plan has been to buy as much ‘non-perishable’ items as possible and keep my pantry very overfilled.”

I’m jealous. Our space for storing food is so pitiful that finding space for two 5-lb. bags of cat food is a big deal. I worry that when the SHTF we’ll be left high and dry.

“I just eat one meal a day.”

We eat just one actual meal a day, about 2pm. Early we’ll graze and have hard boiled egg or piece of cheese. Evening some nuts and berries.

“Pork loin and beef chuck roasts cooked slow in the oven”

I love pork loin, but Hubby believes he will surely die if he eats pork. Those pesky worms, y’know. Maybe I should serve it with a side of Ivermectin.

LOL re Ivermectin

He would probably really freak out if you cooked it according to the new guidelines for pork...internal temp of 145 instead of the old 165, which leaves it a little pink here and there.

I have a close family member who’s a porkophobe and it’s really too bad because a perfect bone-in pork chop is a true delicacy.

Sometimes I get a hankering for pork chops cooked with sauerkraut. I never make it, though.

We eat just one actual meal a day, about 2pm. Early we’ll graze and have hard boiled egg or piece of cheese. Evening some nuts and berries.

For me, I take in zero calories after 9 am. For my meal today, I picked about a quart of wild plums, ate those, then finished off the meal with about a half cup of chopped walnuts.

Tomorrow I'll make hamburgers with koolaid to drink. The day after will be about a quart of raw green beans with ranch dressing, cherry tomatoes with Italian dressing, and a couple of ham sandwiches with fresh Anaheim peppers and green tea.

I do get my calories consumed. I just do it all at once each day. The major point of intermittent fasting is to alter when and how much your body produces hormones. Every time you consume food, even the smallest snack, the body produces insulin and other hormones in response. I plan to keep sticking with an approach that allows me to not need any drugs, either prescription or OTC.

I’ve never tried that but sounds tasty. I wonder if store bought pre-made kraut would but an acceptable simplification or if it needs to be the real thing.

Store bought. In a jar or fresh refrigerated.
