Intelligent Life Really Can’t Exist Anywhere Else

Hell, our own evolution on Earth was pure luck.

In research published in 2020 from Oxford University's Future of Humanity Institute, scientists study the likelihood of key times for evolution of life on Earth and conclude that it would be virtually impossible for that life to evolve the same way somewhere else.

Life has come a very long way in a very short time on Earth, relatively speaking—and scientists say that represents even more improbable luck for intelligent life that is rare to begin with.

For decades, scientists and even philosophers have chased many explanations for the Fermi paradox. How, in an infinitely big universe, can we be the only intelligent life we’ve ever encountered? Even on Earth itself, they wonder, how are we the only species that ever has evolved advanced intelligence?

There are countless naturally occurring, but extremely lucky ways in which Earth is special, sheltered, protected, and encouraged to have evolved life. And some key moments of emerging life seem much more likely than others, based on what really did happen.

Thanks for the humor.

Intelligent Life Really Can’t Exist Anywhere Else

So that rules out everywhere...if it can't exist anywhere else and doesn't exist here.

Yes. Or to those who have no conception of what and how big the Universe really is (I think it’s probably infinite - can you imagine running into a wall, or some road sign that says ‘End of the Universe’?)

It’s impossible to know and the possibilities are countless and astronomically high 🤪

I remember reading some article years ago that stated if they universe is in fact infinite, anything you can imagine does in fact exist. Why? Infinite possibilities. That right now there is a Captain Kirk roaming the galaxy with a Spock and there is a Star wars and there are endless versions of me which is absolutely horrifying because it means there are endless Nancy Pelosis, Hillarys, Chuck Schumers as well

On the bright side Washington DC is immune to the zombie apocalyse... no brains.

It’s amazing. The evidence of a creator God is literally right before their very eyes but they will not see it.

I think there’s a Robbie Burns poem that goes something like this:

Woahi blohdy wehll di no yevolv frem nae stankin’ eepe ur poond scoom.

Yer bum’s oot the windae, ye nombnuttin choob!

Endless versions of everyone probably makes everything work out the same in the Universe as on Earth.

(And if brains count, I think our endlessness wins over theirs.)

My argument for supporting infinity.

What's on the other side of the wall?

God is infinite!

It’s the immense distances of space that prevent us from finding other intelligent life. You must understand the distance to a habitable star system is a voyage that takes longer than the star system exists. The suns die out before you can get to them. there’s no way for these life forms to communicate with each other. You can send a message to a habitable planet but two problems arise: 1) the light you are seeing from this planet is millions of years old and that planet is no longer habitable, and 2) even if there was life on the planet when you sent the message, by the time the message arrives to the planet the intelligent life will not exist anymore.

Fermi’s paradox is misstated (or misleadingly referenced). It supposes that life should be abundant, then supposes if abundant, we should’ve seen evidence of it long ago... but we haven’t.

Various explanations for Fermi’s paradox include:

Life typically is made extinct
There is a caretaker civilization shielding us from contact
Discoverability happens only within a small time window
Discoverability is known to be dangerous for one party or the other and is therefore avoided

I still prefer the traditional biologists’ explanation:

Life is much, much, much less likely to occur than suggested merely by the abundance of planets and stars

but, maybe given infinite possibilities there could somewhere be a Nancy Pelosi who is likeable..

The phrase “god is infinite” is meaningless

God pre-exists light, matter, and time. Therefore God pre-exists everything. God exists outside of space and time.
