Democrats spending millions to protect 2 blue state senators (panic in Washington, Colorado)

Less than a year ago, a GOP Senate victory in deep blue Washington state would have been unthinkable. But now, Democrats are spending millions on advertising in several once-reliable Democratic strongholds, including Washington, as Republicans build national momentum and push for new Senate pickups.

There’s a similar panic in Colorado, where Tuesday’s GOP Senate primary has also drawn millions of dollars in Democratic-funded ads to boost a far-right candidate, a massive last-ditch campaign to keep a moderate Republican off the ballot this fall.

Washington’s Democratic Sen. Patty Murray, meanwhile, has spent more than $1 million on television ads in recent weeks, including two attacking her Republican opponent, Tiffany Smiley, in a state President Joe Biden won by nearly 20 points.

Both sets of ad buys suggest that Republicans are pressing to expand the number of Senate races in which they might pick up a seat in the narrowly divided chamber - and Democrats are worried they may be becoming even more vulnerable.

Murray’s scramble to boost her standing months before the November election - and to attack Smiley on her stance against abortion rights - comes as new polling shows the blue-state race has tightened even before Smiley begins her own advertising on air.

In a poll conducted last week and obtained by POLITICO, Murray is leading Smiley by 5 percentage points, just over the survey’s 4.1 percent margin of error. The internal Smiley poll, conducted by The Tarrance Group, had Murray with 48 percent of the vote, compared to Smiley at 43 percent.

I love how Democrats say "So and So is an existential threat to American democracy!" while they bankroll their campaigns.

At the same time, they claim that Donald Trump has total control over the Republican party but yet they're bankrolling MAGA candidates that they believe will lose over moderate, non-MAGA candidates that they're afraid might win.

Which is it?

These media stories are always about numbers and money like you are choosing between Coke and Pepsi. They never write about the destruction of the country done by the Communist Party or how old and ancient the “mom in tennis shoes” is. She has been a good little Maoist forever.

It would be wonderful if VT, CT, NH, CO, WA would flip... The Connecticut T candidate is okay. She is to the right of Collins...

Senate staffers used to offer an internal poll amongst themselves. Don’t know if they still run it.

IIRC, Murray was voted the dumbest of the whole lot.

I so regret voting for Murray when she first ran. But, I was young, dumb, and had yet to discover Rush! I will be dancing in the streets if she loses.

I am right in the middle of a blue sea here in Washington state. I manage a self storage facility just outside of Tacoma, and I can tell you, EVERY SINGLE conversation I have with current tenants, or when renting uhauls, centers around everything you mentioned. People are beyond fed up with the crime, lockdowns, Insless “decrees” etc. I am hoping for a massive sea change in our state legislature this November. I’m not going to hold my breath tho, ‘cause they got cheating down to a fine art in this state. I think our elections have been rigged here for decades. THREE recounts before Gregoire was declared the winner over Rossi. That stunk to high heaven.

“Which means he’s electable in Colorado. “

indeed, and if elected, his vote to impeach President Trump the next time will be hailed as “bipartisan” ...

in a state President Joe Biden won by nearly 20 points.

How many of those points were fraudulent votes? Maybe Slow Joe didn't win by 20 points and that's why the Senate race is somewhat close.

I was once a Democrat too - when JFK beat RMN, but I was too young to vote.

Many FReepers do not grasp the logic and common sense you just expressed.

Equally, the number here who somehow think that full MAGA candidates are going to win statewide elections in blue states.

I happen to agree with you. I think the cheating will be so prevalent and widespread, that could happen.

Lots of Americans vote “D” because they like high gas prices, millions of illegals flooding the country and high gas prices? Is that what you’re saying Noble?

Here’s my theory: Democrats offer paths to great jobs that incompetent losers usually can’t get... and that’s why people vote “D”... Democrats allow sexual kinks to substitute for competence... same with ‘skin color’...

“Oh, you’re a person who believes in sexual mutilation of young people”

“Yes, you’re hired.”

“No college degree - no problem just know the right pronouns... “HR will be so pleased”
