“Lightyear” wasn’t able to get enough buzz at the box office this weekend.
The latest film from Disney’s Pixar — which features the voice work of Chris Evans as Buzz Lightyear — opened to an estimated $51 million at the North American box office this weekend.
That number came in way under industry expectations, which projected the film to make around $70 million. The movie took in $85.6 million worldwide, according to Disney (DIS).
The film also failed to grab the top spot at the box office, opening at No. 2 behind the second weekend of Universal’s “Jurassic World: Dominion,” which made an estimated $58.6 million.

I think I read just the other day that it features two pervs doing pervert stuff. How very “cutting edge” of Disney!

Its weird how a movie that made 50 million domestically in an opening weekend and is number 2 in box office just a little behind the number 1 movie is said to have “fizzled” just because the people that estimate how well it would do had guesstimate it wouod do even netter.

When all is said and done, I expect it will show a tidy profit. The article mentioned the Jurassic World opening. That movie is being advertised on pretty much every commercial on TV right now for products ranging from Progressive Insurance to fast food. No suprise that it dominated the box office.
Now it will be Buzz Litintheloafers.
Well, you’re right, $50 million is still a lot of money. It’ll be interesting to see what it does next weekend. My guess is that ticket sales will fall off a cliff.
A “feel-good” story to start my morning.
If you invest $300 million and make back $50 million, that’s fizzling. If you invest $2 million and make back $40 million, that’s a hit.
I’m completely done with Disney.
Won’t even watch their older pre-trans lbqxyz films.
$51 million is still way too much. There’s so many soccer moms in this country that will take their kids to every disney movie and buy every disney movie for them on dvd. Disney has a guaranteed base of customers that are addicts, just like how pro sports keep chugging along with their brainwashed fans.
