In a truly shocking moment, Will Smith just smacked Chris Rock in the face after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith at The Oscars.
Chris was up on stage Sunday presenting for Best Documentary, but before he started naming the nominees ... he was firing off zingers to the crowd, and eventually landed on Will and Jada Pinkett Smith.
Chris made a comment about Jada's shaved head ... saying he couldn't wait to see 'G.I. Jane 2' -- which got some groans from the crowd, to which he just sorta shrugged off.
Chris didn't think he'd crossed a line, but Will clearly did ... because he stormed the stage and literally socked the dude in the face. A stunned Rock exclaimed, "Wow. Will Smith just smacked the #### outta me."
The American broadcast on ABC muted, and even froze, but in other countries it continued ... and Will shouted "Keep my wife's name out your #### mouth" twice to Chris.
Chris eventually gained his composure again and carried on with handing out the Oscar, but the room was left tense with a sense of unease.

What’s the saying? There’s no such thing as bad publicity. But man.... that went out live to millions....
LOL! He and Juwan Howard would get along great.
And everybody is now talking about the Oscars....Mission Accomplished!
Same here.
Sure looked like a staged slap to me. Would have been much more impactful if Smith had decked Rock with the Oscar statuette… now that would have been real interesting.
I didn’t see it. If Smith wasn’t arrested or thrown out it staged. The whole thing sounds staged to me.
By slapping someone? M’kay.
Pretty pathetic if Will Smith slapping Chris Rock is important enough to replace the Ukraine in the news cycle. Maybe it will just replace Biden’s public speaking.
The comedian was out of line and cruel. I can see why Will Smith responded by punching the jerk.
Team Chris.
Oh, please. She's such a delicate little flower.
Because the little woman is a fragile, protected little girl who is not a public figure and never leaves the house except for the grocery, church and momma's house, to which her husband drives her because she can't handle a big ol' car. She has never shown her daring necklines in public or uttered a single word in jest towards another public figure in their line of business; no, never.
eye roll
Agree; because he laughed at the joke when it was said, and even she just gave an eyeroll; then he must have been instructed by Jada to take offense.
Used to love Will; dialed it down because of his open marriage and loony children; but this jackassery has moved me to the "totally indifferent" setting.
"I'm a victim! And even though I have lots of money and 24/7 access to all kinds of beauty treatments, designer headwear and custom wigs, I'm going to fly my bald flag and feel all offended in front of the ten dozen people tuned in to this ****show."
"And by the way, If I lost an eye, I would NOT wear an eye patch or get a prosthetic eye."
"And if I burned my arm and had disfiguring scars, I would NOT wear a dress with sleeves."
I could see this amount of offense taken if someone had made a joke about being "flat-chested" to Angelina Jolie the year after she had both of her boobs surgically removed because she has the cancer gene. But this is ridiculous.
She's done worse to herself and to him. Smith is just defending his ego for still being with a public cheater.
I have to admit I’m pretty shocked at that. However, not too much. Hollywood is awful.
I think they are talking about the train wreck that happened during the Oscars. I cannot imagine they wanted this kind of bad publicity. Still nobody cares about the Oscars and this trash will make it less appealing, not more. Unless our society has really gone into the dumpster. Like Jussie Smollet, I can't imagine his hoax, although making him a household name, will do much to attract a new audience to any of hi future ventures.
In Hollywood, there’s no such thing as “bad publicity”.
