Unless you haven’t eaten in the past several months, or you already grow all of your own produce, you’ve probably noticed that the price of food, and everything else, has been rising dramatically...

A couple of years ago I ended up with way to many seed potatoes, I took the rototiller to a patch of completely unprepared ground amongst the pines and tilled the hell out of it. I didn’t do anything other than water it and ended up with a bumper crop, who knew.
I grow potatoes in 5 gallon buckets all the time. It works great!
Heck I was up at 3:00 - hungry I fixed fried squash! All sorts of things you can do in the dark of night when sleep evvades you.
Need to know if they are determinant or indeterminant varieties. Could be you are mounding or not the correct variety.
My russet seed potatoes arrived just today. Russets should make for decent storage if I get it right.
Planting here is still a few weeks away though. I sure am itching to get things started. Trying a cold frame this year and hoping the early season seeds sprout soon. kale, lettuce, broccoli, spinach, musk melon and peas.

Yup. But, I understand that if you use organic potatoes then they don’t receive that spray and will sprout pretty well.
A valid point. But, there are several battery powered “Driveway alarms” that alert the base station in the house when a “Feral” of a certain size crosses it’s beam. A couple of those might do the trick
Great that you’re starting your garden. I’m seeing the same thing too with many gardening supplies either very delayed or just not available anymore. I can’t find course grade vermiculite or a many gardening tools anymore.
You might try some real “seed potatoes” from someone like gurneys.com. I’ve made store bought organic potatoes work OK but the real, albeit not inexpensive, seed potatoes usually work well. Loose, friable, well drained soil is needed too.
Never tried the potato bags, but I’ve seen several videos that seem to show pretty good results. Give them a try.
Full Moon: YES
“Nekked”: NO (It was 48 degrees out. Also not into the naked gardening thing)
Sounds like a plan. It’s still getting down in the low 40’s at night here in Central Texas and I’m a little concerned about getting things in the ground outside yet.
I usually put in 300 lb Yukon golds; only thing the moose don’t eat. Usually plant May 15th here in Fairbanks. Still have hard tatoes in garage. I just made hotdogs and sauerkraut with mashed potatoes over weekend; too good.
Yes , slightly acidic soil (no Lime for years) is best for tomato growth,
but don't forget that they need sunshine (solanaceous family).
Other solanaceous related crops are (fruit) peppers, eggplant, tomatoes, while potatoes are a solanaceous root crop (tuber).
Darn on the sunshine. Always think of the glorious and noble potatoe as mushroom like, since they grow underground.
Lack of potato production is due to too much nitrogen - either in the soil you have in the ground or are using in pots, or supplements you’re adding, or fertilizer you’re using. Compost (home made or purchased) is usually high in nitrogen, which you DON’T want a lot of for potato production.
Potatoes (all root crops; carrots, onions, leeks) require potash/potassium, so look for a fertilizer formula that is a 5-10-10. LOW in nitrogen (first number) and higher in phosphorus (middle number for blooming) and potassium (last number, for tuber growth/development.)
