One type of vitamin D found to boost immune system, another may hinder it

A study investigating the impact of vitamin D on gene expression has found significant differences between vitamin D2 and vitamin D3 supplements. The findings, published in the journal Frontiers in Immunology, indicate vitamin D3 may be more effective at strengthening the immune system compared to vitamin D2.

Vitamin D generally comes in two main forms: ergocalciferol (vitamin D2) and cholecalciferol (vitamin D3). Prior research has established vitamin D3 supplements are much more effective at raising a person’s blood levels of vitamin D. However, it is unclear whether there is any functional differences to human health between the two types of vitamin D supplements.

To help fill this gap in the knowledge the new research looked at data from a recently completed double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial that compared the effects of vitamin D2 and vitamin D3 supplements in several hundred healthy women. A previously published study reported on the trial’s main results, affirming 12 weeks of vitamin D3 supplementation was more effective at raising blood levels of vitamin D.

The new investigation looked at the differences between the two forms of vitamin D on gene expression. In general, the researchers detected significant differences in gene expression between the vitamin D2 and vitamin D3 groups.

“Notably, following vitamin D3 supplementation, the majority of changes in gene expression reflected a down-regulation in the activity of genes, many encoding pathways of the innate and adaptive immune systems, potentially shifting the immune system to a more tolerogenic status,” the researchers wrote in the new study. “Surprisingly, gene expression associated with type I and type II interferon activity, critical to the innate response to bacterial and viral infections, differed following supplementation with either vitamin D2 or vitamin D3, with only vitamin D3 having a stimulatory effect.”

Vitamin D3 helped my mothers COPD, she’s been lung infection free for four years and her breathing has improved. Her COPD was getting progressively worse over the last two decades.

I take D3 every morning in the form of Carlson’s Norwegian Cod Liver Oil. Pricey but worth it.

Old news. D3 has been long known to be more effective than D2. We have D3 and a Zinc/Quercetin supplement taken daily. However, I believe it is our sanitizing protocol that has kept us from getting Covid.

1. When getting back in the car from shopping or other, we wipe down the inside handle and the seat belts with a small container of 100% alcohol spray in the console, plus our hands.
2. ANYTHING (groceries, packages on doorstep, itc.) we are to bring inside the house is sprayed top to bottom and use our hands to spread over the entire package.
3. Our hands are then sanitized from that process and then only open the garage door to the house.
4. Once we bring the items in the house, we immediately dis-infect our hands again.

The Wife got the 2 original shots of Pfizer, but after learning they are doing little and causing heart problems, forego the boosters. I've never had the shots. We wore the masks for awhile until proven they do little, if anything. Now, we don't wear them but carry them for the few places that require them, and also for the Karens.

Lysol spray contains 70% alcohol. That is the minimum to kill Covid virus and others. It's a convenient spray, cheap, and now available anywhere.

Neither of us got the flu shot this year and we didn't get it. I had a light-weight cold for a couple weeks, but I know the symptoms of a cold vs Covid and the Wife didn't get my cold. Just sanitize you hands and don't touch your face.

Screw Fauxi, the CDC, NIH, WHO and other so-called experts. This pandemic has been a farce from day one. None of them knew what they were talking about with all their flip-flopping and the "science". Covid was nothing more than a flu, which kills many ever year.

Just take three regular D’s and you’ll have D3. (do I really have to say it?)

Same here with the masks but I now use a neck warmer tube I got at Costco instead. Works great now for winter. Hopefully the mask rules will be gone before it gets hot. Best part is one just pulls it up or down and you don’t have to worry about the loops around the ear.

This video, Sunlight: Optimize Health and Immunity (Light Therapy and Melatonin), is very long and the first 45 minutes may not seem to be germane but is important to laying the foundation for the latter part of the discussion at hand. Raising the level of D3 in the blood is good but not the full answer in regards to D3 and recovery from illness.

Dr Berg tries to do a 12 minute summary of subject in The MOST POWERFUL Antioxidant is Melatonin, NOT Glutathione. Obviously he cant go into as much depth in this short period of time but since he does get into the conversation of glutathione and melatonin, something that Ive seen a lot of misunderstanding of posted here, I think its a good place to start especially for those that dont think they want to spend the time on the first one. (I dont know if DR Berg knows it but he is constantly pointing at various "crumbs" in his videos that some may be interested in.)

This type of information along with a number of papers Ive read recently seem to suggest that most of our health problems in modern times are stemming from life long chronic D3 deficiency (that and our failure to recognize K2).
